Reasons for a mild temp?

ds has temp of 38.1 (with ear thermometer). he seems happy enough, at the end of a cold, so still little bit snotty... just wondering if there is always a reason for a temp, iykwim (am paranoid mother really)

My dd was like this on Saturday, she was also a bit lethargic with it. Picked up again on Sunday and is her usual noisy self today. I just kept her in for the day and let her rest as she needed.

sound exactly like what my chap has had dinny!
A temp is just a bodies way of fighting infection. This does not necessarily mean a bacterial infection(requiring antibiotics) it is the bodys natural response to viral infections as well.
