If I promise never to mention periods again.... is colour important?!

Ever since having kids my periods have been like black tar at first and then graduating to very black blood for about a week and then about 5 days of bright red blood...finding the black stuff a bit worrying... (incredibly heavy too and I'm anaemic)

this period is just being freaky... it came on day 45 of what was a 28 day cycle and started with this really weird feeling of wetting myself, although I'm sure I didn't! Blush (That's never happened before)

could the colour mean anything though? GP is so not bothered it's annoying.

probably because it was late it was heavier than normal, that would be bound to make it look/feel different.

ItalianJob · 06/05/2006 00:04

My periods often start with me feeling as if I've wet myself, but then it's not wee but blood iyswim.

My periods were really dark when I first started having them. I don't think the colour is particularly important. Having a 12 day period sounds like a bit of a faff - when you're done with the expressing maybe try going on the Pill?

fastasleep · 06/05/2006 00:08

Can't do the pill get migraines... Gp adamant about that but not bothere about checking anything...

my mum had bad endo after me and had to have ablation quick sharp...

Black tar cannot be norrrmal!! They're always super heavy always have been just not black

DH also says my insides are 'weird'... not since having babies just in general, he says it's fine but then near the top, there's like a corner which he's never encountered before in other women (and he's had lots..)... it's like straight up to the cervix but next to the cervix there seems to be a gap/corner thing on one side... GP also not bothered Grin

I love a good over-react about my lady bits don't you? I love my DH.

that'll be your pouch of douglas FA

Agree though black tar doesnt sound too good although I sometimes have (to start with) very dark browny sludge

ItalianJob · 06/05/2006 00:11

presumably you would have had various internal exams to do with labour etc, so someone would have noticed and (hopefully!) mentioned something significant.

I think I have had really black gunky days at times

(oh the shame of it, as we are both stone cold sober having this conversation over the www!)

fastasleep · 06/05/2006 00:12

Is there such a thing as a pouch of douglas?! And only at one side?!

I don't have a bucket fanny btw, I can break a pencil me Grin

fastasleep · 06/05/2006 00:13

don't ask what DH was doing.

Fastasleep,

I would ask for (and insist on) a gynae referral from your GP. He clearly not knows what is wrong here. The dark coloured blood is "old" blood but as your periods are heavy as well the cause of this ought to be determined.

The Pouch of Douglas is an extension of the peritoneal cavity between the rectum and back wall of the uterus.
