Freaking out. Had a blood test yesterday and the doc has left me a message to ring him after half 4 today to discuss it.

The message said it wasn't an emergency unless I was feeling unwell.

I had the blood test because of bone pain in my right ankle/leg.

Ok have listened to it again and he didn't say emergency, he said there was no urgency but to ring after half 4 today or tomorrow.

Can u phone and ask reception for the results?

I did and she said that I have to ring after half 4 to speak to the doctor.

Hmm i did have a high liver something result the once, maybe it is that. I did have a bottle of wine the night before the blood test too.

I wouldn't worry having had occasions where the Doc has actually kept ringing until I was free and leaving messages to ring ASAP (esr marker high that time). The Doc also rang DS3 one night at 9pm to discuss blood results ( low white cell count that time).

Hope all's OK Nutcracker My GP's always leaves a message to ask you to phone (or sometimes phone me) if anything on a blood test comes back not completely normal. Even if it's something like raised potassium levels, or sodium levels or whatever, which is not uncommon with the medication I take. I used to freak out but now I know they have to discuss absolutely anything that is slightly out, I don't any more. The one time there was something potentially really wrong, they were all over me like a tent - phoning, texting, you name it - till they ran me to ground.

I've spoken to the doctor and my ERS and CRP levels were both more or less double the normal level, and my white blood count was slightly high.
He said it indicates infection or inflammation, and in his opinion it is inflammation but we don't know why.

My leg isn't sore to touch, and there is no swelling, just agonising pain that feels like it starts in my ankle bone.

He has prescribed me some anti inflamatories, and an antacid incase they irritate my stomach. Ive then to go back on Monday when the results of my x-ray should be in.

I'd like to say that I'm not worried now, but I still am a bit. It doesn't help that when I orginally went to see the doc, he mentioned bone cancer.

So, not really any the wiser at the moment, but fingers crossed my x-ray comes back clear and the tablets work.

Sounds like promising news to me. My esr was in the high 60s think they should be under 15 - Dr called me on my mobile whilst I was in Costco to tell me it was 'interestingly high'
When was your x ray?

Although you said your ESR and CRP are double the normal amount, they're still not that high, so please try not to be too worried. The x-ray may not show anything but if pain persists, please insist on an ultrasound scan or MRI. If it is inflammation, you need a proper diagnostic scan. All the best!

If it's inflammation, what does that actually mean ? Will it be a one off thing or a condition ?

It's so odd. The whole thing just came out of nowhere, no previous pain, or injury or anything, but when it really hurts it makes the whole of my lower leg feel weak and i struggle to stand on it.

It could be inflammation from the joints or tendons. How strange. Hope you get some answers soon!

You can't always see inflammation in your joints. Inflammation would certainly be consistent with the pain you're experiencing, and knowing that it's caused by inflammation makes it much easier to treat effectively (than mystery pain).

I once had excruciating pain in my ankle joint - but not all the time, iyswim. I would find it hard to stand one minute, hobble another, and be fine the next.

Turned out to be a not uncommon thing where a teeny tiny fragment of bone chips off and lodges in the joint - when it gets 'stuck' in certain places, pain. When it dislodges and moves to less awkward place, fine. I had some physio, but it basically sorted itself out.

Have now been laid up for 3 days with a bug, sickness, dithering one min and boiling the next, but at least it has taken my mind off my leg lol.

Have tried to book an appointment for monday to speak to the gp and get ym x-ray results but he's fully booked . I did say that he had askedme to book for that day, but no joy.

Hi, is there any redness on the skin around the ankle?

Sorry you are feeling so crappy, I felt very similar and had bone pain with obvious inflammation but I could move the joint etc. mine turned out to be osteomyelitis which was a surprise really.

Hopefully you'll get X-ray results ASAP and be on the mend soon

Hi, there is no redness at all no. Sometimes i think I can see a slight swelling under the ankle bone, but that might be because I am looking to hard iykwim.

I can move it all fine too, and it doesn't really hurt to touch either. It's all very weird.

Not heard of osteomyelitis, will have a look. Did it get better ??

If it comes and goes, and there are no other symptoms, could be as simple as a trapped nerve...and the bug you've just had might account for the raised inflammation markers, rather than being connected to your leg pain?

Hi, mine was tender to the touch but not straight away, and no you don't want osteomyelitis, its pretty much ruining my life right now! Mine isn't usually detected by xray, it takes an MRI to see it and by then its too late and it needs urgent surgery.

I hope the Dr gets back to you asap and lets you know what is going on.

When it was 60, and I was feeling unwell and had a temp, they said it was probably a virus.
I've had it in the 300-500 plus when I had mrsa septacemia.

Good luck with X-ray result. The raised levels just might mean a minor infection and your ankle pain may be unrelated.

Might be arthritis. My DS has the juvenile version... And the only thing that stood out was the erp and csr being elevated... He was on steroids. Now on methotrexate. He's doing well but needs to be on it for a while yet.
