Doc treated my itchy scalp for lice even though she couldn't see any...?

I went to the doctor today because my scalp has been amazingly itchy. I've also got some weird skin thing on my neck, which after so much scratching, looks like eczsma.

She looked, the scalp looked clear (although have v thick hair so hard to see) and said she was going to treat it like nits. Apparently they can bite the back of your neck, hence what's going on there.

Here's my questions:

Was she nuts?
And if it's not nits, then what the f**k is making my scalp so itchy? I can't bear it!

I get an awfully itchy and flaky scalp and the only thing to help has been the body shop ginger shampoo.

Doesn't help you with the docs advice but could be worth a try.

I used it daily for a week and now use it once a week and scalp is totally clear

We just treated my daughter for nits even though we couldn't see any and in fact she had loads. Why don't you do the comb through wth conditioner rather than use what the GP gave you? There's nothing to lose then.

The weird skin thing on your neck could be? Maybe?

Do the bit treatment but get some Tgel shampoo. I use Phillip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp shampoo too and that's v good.

There's no flakiness, nothing. No dandruff! Just burns and itches.

I think I'll go to Body Shop tomorrow

check with a nit comb and conditioner. You arent supposed to use treatments for lice unless you find live lice. It sounds like it could be something other than lice. Have you changed your shampoo or styling products?

Kindle- my scalp used to burn, so much so that u had to scratch if that makes sense? The ginger shampoo really cools it and I've tried every anti dandruff/ itchy scalp shampoo going.

I also sometimes get a little cluster of spots on the nape of my neck but had never linked the 2.

I can't remember tha last time u had a sore scalp to be honest.

The shampoo has a lovely cooling effect straight away. I think mine is linked to stress but I've managed to keep it at bay with the ginger shampoo.

Smells a bit iffy but I just use my lovely conditioner afterwards.

I do have quite greasy hair, it has to be washed every day and I think that's caused it too.

It's about 6 quid for a small bottle iirc, but you don't need much. I've had a large bottle since December and am only just over half way through it.

And no dramatic hair loss. My ds is 2 so had lots if extra tufts of regrowth following pregnancy but I do she'd quite a lot of hair after showers and brushing etc, its quite thick and I dye it red so put it down to that more than my scalp.
