I'm 49 and apart from the odd blip my periods are still very regular and on time. However I had a normal period in December and then nothing until this week. Felt fine and POAS twice but both neg. Thought that it was the start of menopause but accepted this.

Tuesday I started feeling ill, shaky, hot and v. faint and then had horrible cramps in low pubic area and in back. Also sickening ache down my thighs. It felt worse than childbirth and i was crying as i was on my own. I started bleeding heavily with contraction type pains and passed was felt like a load of jelly but was huge clots, blood and pink issue. Very, very heavy blood loss throughout next couple of days- enough to scare my dh as i later soaked the mattress. I saw our lovely nurse who gave me some tranexamic acid tablets but by then flow had already tapered off.

I feel horrible and I am as white as a sheet, tired to the point of exhaustion, breathless and headachey. I am in to see the doc the end of next week but have started taking Spatone just incase.

Anyone else had this and is it possible to become anaemic after one such episode?

Yes its possible to become anaemic after one episode. Never had this, though sounds similar to when I had a miscarriage. Does the nurse think its menopause?
