cystitis

I think I might have cystitis. I have a low tummy ache all the time, worse when I walk around, like a burning, raw feeling inside. When I wee I'm ok, but the last few drops are like peeing red hot acid. Plus I feel like I want to still wee, even when I've finished.

I've never had cystitis before, so was wondering if this sounded like it. Should I get to drs now, or drink water and wait a few days?? I go on holiday at half-term and don't want to be sick for it.

Sounds like cystitis, ive had it a few times, get yourself to the doctors before it gets worse and more painful.

Drinking cranberry juice/eating cranberries is supposed to help. Also you can get over the counter treatments.

There is some good info and advice on \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/cystitis1.shtml\the BBC site}

Think i'd better go to doctors. Just been to the loo again and my wee was pinkish coloured (blood?) Gonna have some paracetamol now for the pain (which is getting worse all the time).

GP. Now. If you can bear to take a sample with you, do it, but they will prescribe antibiotics even without the test results. Drink as much water as you can and take the ABs. You will be okay again in about 2 hours. Don't drink cranberry while you have it - it can make it worse by irritating the bladder wall. But do try to drink it regularly once you get rid of it as it can ward off future attacks.

Thank you janinlondon. Luckily i dont need an appointment at GP for morning surgery, so I will call there tomorrow on my way to work. I will take a sample with me, coz knowing my luck, they will ask for one and I won't be able to perform at the time!! I have got some cranberry, but I'll hold off drinking it till this burning feeling stops. Thanx guys. x

Will you be able to hold out till tomorrow?????? Without the ABs it may just get worse.....

themoon66 · 03/05/2006 12:45

I will have to hold on - there is no surgery till tomorrow morning Sad. I will buy something to relieve the pain on my way home from work at 2.30pm today. That should help me over the night time Smile

I used to suffer from this really badly. Antibiotics is generally the only thing to make it go for good. In the meantime drink loads of water (but not too much - I used to drink litre after litre until hallucinating - that is v dangerous) - every few hrs as emergency measure you can put spoon of bicarb into a glass of water - helps to neutralise the acid. (not if pregnant) Don't ever think it will just go away when it 1st starts - it will get worse before it gets better so need to keep up with the water.

Been to Drs - been given antibiotics, so should be okay now I hope.

Thanks for all your advice. x
