taken him to the doctors and she said it could be measles although just probably viral and to take him to ooh if he gets worse

Yes.

The vaccine doesn't work for everyone.

That's why it is important that as any people as possible (not those in high-risk categories) has the vaccine -- the more people who have the vaccine the less likely it is that there will be measles "gong around" and so the less likely it is that someone for whom the vaccine did not work, or someone vulnerable who was unable to have the vaccine will come into contact with any measles.

Yes.

Characteristic measles rash starts behind the ears and is "lacy" in appearance initially, and the spots gradually coalesce to become general red/rough rash. It spreads from neck and head, down the torso and then down the limbs. The other key symptom is Koplik spots (white spots in mouth) but these have usually passed off by the time the rash appears.

Weird virus with rash is far commoner than measles.

Immunology isn't a one size fits all topic. The amount of times I've been told that I CANNOT have had chickenpox twice.

So yes it could be measles. But even if it's not take your DS to ooh if the viral symptoms worry you. I hope he's feeling a bit brighter soon.

ok thank you, didnt want to just ignore that it could be measles,my first thought was viral,

I thought DD had measles a few weeks ago but took her to docs and it was scarlet fever. There's a lot of things going round now. Hope your DC gets better soon

my ds had measles, confirmed by blood test at dr, when he was 2. He had his 1st mmr but hadn't had or was due, the 2nd.

I thought it was viral, til an old lady saw him in his pushchair and shouted aaagghh measles is back Grin This prompted the trip to dr.

beautifulgirls · 02/03/2013 12:51

If your GP thinks there is a chance this is measles then they should be testing as measles is a notifiable disease.

mumineedapooooo · 02/03/2013 17:36

we have been to ooh today after a bad night with him, they have given antibiotics for ear infection and seemed certain the rash is viral.
the rash is worse today,he's 7 and ive never seen him so ill with 'just a virus'.

calpol and nurofen doesnt last long enough for the pain or fever, fever will come down then be back up within 2 hours before hes due any more medicine. The rash covers most of his body and is itchy.
his glands are up, probably why his tummy hurts too.
he will try to get up to play soon after medicine then just lie on floor after 5 mins

I would ring A&E and tell them you may have an infectious child with measles. Explain how poorly he is and ask what to do.
It is a notifiable disease.

mumineedapooooo · 02/03/2013 17:56

ive put a picture on my profile of rash,
hes due more nurofen at 6,30,im going to give that and take him up to bed,i think a good sleep will do him good,he was up most of the night and up early.i will get him seen again if he doesnt improve

certainly resembles a measles rash but then so do many 'viral rashes'. Hope he gets a good night

I have had measles. My rash was more red but hard to tell in camera light.

Just keep fluids going into him.

If it is measles - it can really take some getting over. I was very weak for weeks after and had to go for gentle little walks before I was able to go back to school. I had a very heavy head too and very sleepy.

I would get some decent pro-biotic or tonic ( not that stuff in yoghurty drinks - full of sugar and not high enough in good bacteria content) and give him that when he begins to improve.

I found my taste buds went bizarre and things i usually liked tasted vile.

Poor kid. I really hope it's connected to the earache. I had measles a few decades ago and can still recall the agony. It's a nasty illness.
