When is it time to go to the dentist for toothache?

In the night my tooth/gum started hurting and its been hurting today. Its a wisdom tooth that hasn't completely come through and still has some gum over it. it is painful in the gum either side iyswim and not really the tooth itself...

Do i leave it or go to the dentist tomorrow?

Wisdom teeth can hurt when pushing through the gum. But a visit to dentist would put your mind at rest that there is no infection.

The bit of gum on the top has come away from the tooth iyswim? Am I too old for it to be coming through at 36?
