What have I done? Dislocated jaw????

Was crunching a mimi egg and got a sharp pain in my jaw on that side. Now I can't close my back teeth together and have pain all up that side of my face?

Surely I can't have dislocated my jaw? Anyone got any idea of what could I have done, and is it likely to get better on its own? Can't face sitting in the surgery for ages with my wriggly, fidgity 13mth dd in tow....

would see a dentist rather than gp...they know more about the anatomy. do you grind your teeth?

No - it just happened when I was eating the egg - my own fault, they're dd1's, not mine!

actually, i get this sometimes. I think my jaw is misaligned... can you open your mouth and wiggle it from side to side and see if it'll go back?

Don't think it's TMJ as it's not happened before and seems to be caused by this specific thing (ie. eating the mini egg!).

Hace tried wriggling jaw around - still the same Sad.

How am I going to eat my lunch?!

I have dislocated my jaw before through teeth grinding.

I went to the dr who sent me to my dentist and I was seen straight away as an emergency, so I think going straight to the dentist would be your best bet!

Also try taking neurofen or something which will help with any inflamation

This happened to me once. The dentist put two fingers in my mouth, right at the back and behind the bottom wisdom teeth and gently applied pressure and the jaw went back. I am not sure if it is possible to do it yourself, if it does not work, I would go and see a dentist because it will only take them seconds to do it. Good luck. Smile

Thanks everyone - pain has subsided a bit (took ibuprofen). Will see how it goes today, and if no improvement by tomorrow, will try to get to see the dentist.

Serves me right for pinching dd1's chocolate I suppose!

I've done this a couple of times. Just woken up and my back teeth don't meet. It's really frustrating and bloody painful.
A chiropractor could also sort it out (if you've got a spare £35 quid!!)
