Do you get a results reply if you have a normal smear?

Just as the title asks.
Had mine ages ago and haven't heard anything, was wondering if its because its clear or whether I should chase it up (asking the receptionist ) because I should get my results anyway

Yes, you should always get your result.

I'm fairly sure I don't get anything if everything's ok.

I had a text message from my medical centre - how modern!!
It said it was negative so I'm sure you should get some sort of correspondence either way.

I get a letter within two weeks. It tells me the test was clear and and reminds me to book another one in three years' time

You should always get a letter fine or not. Get your Gp to chase it up, or phone yourself if done at a clinic

Yes if you are in England you should get your results in writing by day 14 (day 1 is the day you had the sample taken). It doesn't make any difference what the result is.

The only exceptions are:
If you had the sample taken anonymously in a GU clinic
If you have changed address and not informed your registered practice
If you changed your address at the appointment when you had your sample taken, it may not have updated in time.
The practice gets a copy of your result so should have a copy and be able to give your result.

I don't get a letter. My GP gets the results, so I have to ring them if I want to find out. The nurse usually tells me this.

If you need to go back, you get a letter.

I always had a letter, except when they forgot over 30 years ago, and got one 18 months later to tell me my last smear showed abnormal cells, and must urgently make an appt.
I suppose it's a different procedure in different areas of the country.

But good you got your result and all is OK.

There are a few GPs who have opted out, but i understood that the majority of England had result letters sent by call/recall agencies. There's three reasons 1) to avoid issues like digerd had, 2) the letters follow a national template which helps to ensure consistency and the right information is given 3) it facilitates tracking of the turnaround time of results i.e. the 14 day.

Tom - glad your result is ok, did you check whether there had been a problem with your address details? If it is wrong then you won't get your invitation letter for your next smear. Actually did you get an invite letter for this one (not directly from the GP but the recall agency?)
