Anyone cracked a rib? Did you go to the doctor with it?

I'm sure I've broken a rib
I fell on it heavily, heard a crack, big pain
Felt ok but sore when I moved and breathed for a couple of days but perfectly manageble.
Yesterday I carried my youngest around a bit more and it's much much worse. Very painful when I move and breath

Google says its normal and no need to see dr or get x ray as they can't do anything, just wait it out...

Current advice is just pain relief so not essential to seek medical assessment if you can manage with over the counter. You must make sure you can comfortably breathe properly!

You must rest though and if anything changes or suddenly gets more painful get yourself seen.

My DH fell off his bike a couple of years ago, I wanted to get him checked over ASAP mostly for large grazes but he said no. A few days later his rib was no better and very achey but nothing a medic could do.

^^WTS

I cracked two ribs sledging a couple of years ago and as per Dr Google's advice just took painkillers and took it easy. Unfortunately I wasn't able to breath properly and ended up with pneumonia. Doh!! So please make sure you're taking deep breaths and breathing properly.

I did it sledging too!
How do you make sure you are breathing properly? I'm pretty sure I'm not fully breathing in due to the pain but am not realising this until I notice every now and then and make an effort to breathe deeper. It's subconscious I think.
I've got 3 kids on half term, one who needs carrying and feeding which doesn't help!

I didn't go to the docs as I knee from my dad breaking his they won't do anything.

It takes a few weeks for the worst of the pain to subside, and they'll ache for ages afterwards. Dope yourself up and take it easy.

My GP told me I should have been regularly making a conscious effort to take a few deep breaths and inflate my lungs completely, he also said I needed to cough too. It does hurt yeah, but it won't do any harm. Maybe do it once your painkillers have completely kicked in.

I was sledging with DS and went A over T all the way down a steep hill, I now have an inhaler as a result of the pneumonia but it was almost worth it for DS' reaction to my "awesome fall mum - 10 out of 10!!"

And if you start to feel wheezy or have shortness of breath, get thee to the docs.
