Keeping everything crossed for you...

Copthallresident · 26/03/2013 08:18

Hospital gives you the raging jitters, but at the same time you know something is being done and you are being looked after. Hope Mr Surgeon turns up soon.

Just made scrambled egg for the breakfast pass (as we Masterchefs say)

jchoc I did actually literally mean in bed, in posh London hospitals there are a lot of middle eastern patients, even more orthodox than the community we know and there are women in bed in full burkha with just a thin slit of net to see out of. Sad

smee · 26/03/2013 08:57

Any eggs left, Gigs? Budge up. Will sit on the less messy side so opposite Topsy Grin

Am open mouthed at the idea of women having to wear a burkha in beds. Shock

topsyturner · 26/03/2013 08:59

Morning All

HND is on her way to my house with a MaccyDs breakfast !
not even slightly ashamed

Gracie good luck for today !

Gigondas · 26/03/2013 09:24

Hugs for gracie.

Up and dressed now- nurse (who know from chemo - way too much time in hospital when know the nurses) reckons If I need an op it probably won't be today. Will wait and see what consultant says when he shows then let dh do his intimidating bit to hurry them up if they decide I have to wait around too Long for it

smee · 26/03/2013 09:33

Hooray for your butch husband, Gig! How's he doing? Must be bloody tough for him too.

Gigondas · 26/03/2013 09:45

He is doing ok - think the little gigs offer him lots of comfort and distraction. He is just pleased we have nannies to help as they have been fab and can provide care when needed so he doesn't have that to worry about. He is being ace as usual and calming me down/making me laugh so am very lucky to have himGrin.

smee · 26/03/2013 10:13

He sounds lovely. Must have been tough for both of you last night not being together. Bloody hell, you haven't half been through it. Hope Surgeon has some sane answers pronto. xx

topsyturner · 26/03/2013 10:13

You are lucky to have each other Gigs !
Perfect team work there Smile

Breakfast consumed here .
Still waiting for heating oil to be delivered (looking very fetching in pjs , dressing gown , furry boot slippers , big colourful scarf , purple knitted hat , big pink blankie) (not one single matching or even slightly co ordinating colour !)

Time for crappy tv and more crochet .
Making DS a blankie .
Will post a piccie on Facebook of how that's going !

graciesmall09 · 26/03/2013 10:33

Hope the scrambled egg was tasty gigs and hope the surgeon gets his backside over and get your treatment moving. Glad you have good support. Think I might try your turmeric trick.

Thanks for the good luck for appointment. It isn't until 7.45 tonight so plenty of time to think about it.

Your ensemble sounds very colourful topsy.

Waves to all.

AshokanFarewell · 26/03/2013 10:44

Gig I'm sorry you had rubbish news, at least it sounds like they should be getting it sorted ASAP. Hope you enjoyed your breakfast. Will be thinking of you all lots :) I'm glad Mr Gig is keeping your spirits up.

Good luck today gracie and I hope your oil arrives soon topsy. The blankie sounds fab, will you post a pic here too at some point as I don't have any of you on Facebook? :)

My mum made me a crochet blanket when I went to uni and then she made me a new little one for my chemo sessions but haven't had a chance to use that yet.

amber that list is really helpful, I'm going to look into some of those too, and your explanation about the different chemicals etc. makes a lot of sense and is very encouraging. Do you have a medical job or is this stuff you be learnt about during your treatment?

KurriKurri · 26/03/2013 11:15

Morning all -

topsyturner · 26/03/2013 11:22

Will have to wait till I can wrestle the laptop from the DCs cold dead hands to post a crochet pic on here as I can't seem to do it from my phone via the mumsnet ap (hint hint to mumsnet tech !)

But if you pm me , I'll give you my Facebook name .
We also have a private Facebook page called Tamoxifen 10 .
If you send a friend request there , I'm sure Mas will accept you Grin

AshokanFarewell · 26/03/2013 11:42

KK that sounds awful, I can never understand how people can treat family members so badly! At least they have your support and you sound lovely :) is there any way they will get the house back? I hope they have somewhere nice to live in the meantime. Porridge sounds lovely, with jam? Grin I have some Rice Krispie chocolate nests

topsy how frustrating, I hope you're warm enough under all of your layers! I shall pm you.

I think my boyfriend will be breaking up with me tomorrow. It's a bit of a strange situation to be in. Trying not to think about it so I'm enjoying reading some of the more bizarre mumsnet threads! :)

I've been knitting a sheep but it is very slow as it involves making lots of little loops and I can't really get into a rhythm. I'm going to make this hat for my sister once we have bought the wool.

amberlight · 26/03/2013 11:50

Ashok, nope, I'm not medical. But I did used to work on the wards, and am a genuine autistic computer geek who has spent the last two years reading every single research document being produced from the proper science teams etc. So I tend to have the up to date stats, research and tips 'n tricks. None of it is the slightest consolation if people are the unfortunate ones with a superintelligent cancer that sticks two fingers up at all of it. But at the very least it should slow the s*d down. And my view is if we can slow it all down, some superstar will appear with the right trial or potion...and then it can be stopped in its tracks. And grr and hugs over the boyfriend situation. Never been able to knit much, but I admire the skill in others.

PS very odd - just back from dentist and she was expecting the chemo etc would have wrecked my teeth. It did the opposite with me, which is Very Odd. My teeth are now better than they were before Hmm. Confused dentist. But good.

topsyturner · 26/03/2013 11:54

Knitting a sheep ?
Oooookay ....

Grin
topsyturner · 26/03/2013 11:55

That's poor behaviour kk on behalf of the relative .
Hope they find something even better very soon !

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/03/2013 12:02

that's awful kk for Ds and DDIL - grrr Sad
Hooray for Mr gig - he is ace- I 'know' him cyberly from various bits of work I've done !
Hope oil arrives v soon topsy
A hug for ashokan
Am waiting for aunt to go out to lunch - ds has suddenly appeared home as school has a power cut...not sure if she'll want him tagging along-can always send him to buy his lunch at Waitrose Grin

AshokanFarewell · 26/03/2013 12:14

Haha yes a tiny little sheep! It's a kit that I got for my birthday a few years ago. They should look like this eventually! :) I also made a Jesus for my "knitivity" over the weekend! Grin

amber that's good news about your teeth, have you been using special mouthwash or anything? I really admire all your cancer knowledge. And it's kind of you to share it as some of us have our heads firmly in the sand! I read Anticancer by David Servan-Schreiber but other than that I try and steer clear of it all in case I read something scary. It's a shame the medical professionals, certainly the ones I've met, don't mention any of these things as personally I find it very empowering to know there's things I can include in my diet and supplements I can take to improve my chances.

Also I've noticed my skin has got much clearer while on chemotherapy, which is a lovely bonus :) especially as it ought to be awful given that my diet is based solely on refined carbohydrates! The problem is that nearly all of the anticancer foods are bad for my pouch and if I get diarrhoea I have to stop the chemo so it's a balancing act.

KurriKurri · 26/03/2013 12:17

Knitting a sheep? - that hat looks lovely Asho.

making porridge for amber and asho - (although it is more of a lunchtime porridge than a breakfast one now Grin) I have jam, and maple syrup, - and some fruit pretends to be healthy

DS and DDIL live in a very tiny rented terrace atm, - as DS says they have a roof over their heads, so that is the main thing. But they had worked so hard on this house, and they were going to rent for 2/3 years and save up for a deposit to buy it. They'd bought stuff to go in it too - that will be to big for their current house, so are having to get rid of/store that - it was upsetting for them having to bring it all back (they'd already put it in the new house).

Anyway - I have said that sometimes things happen for the best, and something better may come along. Meanwhile we are going over to take them out to lunch for DDIl's b'day, DD is making her a cake, and we will try to cheer them up.
And now they have more evenings and weekends free, they have booked up swing dance lessons, in preparation for their wedding next year Smile

Enjoy your lunch MAS, - lucky T getting an unexpected day off school Grin

fingers crossed for oil topsy.

AshokanFarewell · 26/03/2013 12:17

MAS enjoy your lunch with your aunt. Lucky DS, unexpected days off are always the best Grin, assuming he's pleased about it?
