Pains in hands and feet. Doctor?

Hello, I've been having pain in my feet on and off for a while but some toe joints have been throbbing badly for a couple of weeks.I've also had tingleing and numbness in hands and feet off and on for a few years.
The new thing is my hands, they feel swollen and I'm getting a lot of random pains in my thumb joints and knuckles. Two fingers and one thumb and one knuckle are slightly swollen. This has been for the last week.
What do you think it could be and I suppose I should ring gp tomorrow?
Any experience would be great. TIA.

Forgot to add that I've just turned 40 if age is relevant. And it feels uncomfortable to make a fist.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I've had swelling in my finger joints, not enough pain to take painkillers but I can't make a fist and it's very uncomfortable. I saw the GP last week and am waiting for a blood test for rheumatoid arthritis. I'm 31 Sad.

Think you should see your GP as they may want to run tests as said above

Thank you both. I've got an appointment with gp in an hour. Not sure what he needs to know but guess I'll find out soon. I hope he can find an alternative to inflammatory arthritis that fits my symptoms. At least I don't really have Morning stiffness , it hurts more at night.
Thanks again.

how did you get on l4k? I had to wait a week for an appointment, now have to wait over 2 weeks for a blood test!

l4k · 18/02/2013 21:38

Hi, he was running an hour behind and not in the mood to chat! He said it doesn't look like RA, but it sounds like it. ( whatever that means) he also said it could be gout because of my toe joint

But at some point mentioned a bunion!!!
I think he doesn't know what it is and was too busy to think it through so he's sending me for a long list of blood tests. I didn't dare ask if the anti- ccp was on the list, but I can't see it. Blood test at hospital on weds, back to him in 2 weeks for results.
Pain been better today but I've taken loads of ibuprofen.
Can you tell me any more about your symptoms? I really don't know what my problem is , I'd just like to be able to use my hands without pain again.

ok, so unless I'm imagining this my wrists are starting to hurt now too!!! What the hell !!! does that make any difference to diagnosis do you think?
Sorry, I know nobody can know for sure on the internet but i'm really quite worried.
Spoke to DM who doesn't "do illness" and she mentioned she had some kind of inflammatory arthritis(knees, lasted about 6 months) years ago and doctor blamed it on catching herself on a thorn in the garden. also said vaguely that she'd once been told she had gout.
These revelations came when I asked about her mother's illness which DM said was some kind of inflammatory arthritis that affected her veins, possibly RA.
And I only told the gp about my DM's normal arthritis in her hand and feet !!!
She hates being questioned so I don't think I'll get any more details.
Does this patchy family history have any relevance?
thanks for any advice.

Mine didn't 'look' like RA but it is and all my bloods were negative at first. I was pushy and insisted on a referral. Wink Family history can help. Don't panic until you've had all the blood tests and ask for a print out when they're done. Even if they're all negative, do ask for a rheumatology referral. Early diagnosis is the key to good disease control and if you don't have inflammatory arthritis, at least you've had the once over from a specialist to be sure!

This link should be helpful if you haven't seen it already.

Think you. I've had a look but I still don't know what it is. My hands hurt more or less all the time now. Feet still hurt too, and definately had some twinges in my wrists.
Had the blood tests this morning. Ifthe results normal or inconclusive l will ask to see a rheumatologist.
Thanks for the link.
