do put ds on the floor?

ds is 8months and I've always put him on a blanket to play on, on the floor, which I wash several times a week. But now he can move around on it and wrap himself up in it, it's not safe anymore.

I've just plonked him down on the floor without a blanket and my heart is doing flip flops. I'm quite obsessed with cleanliness and can't bare this.

Is this ok?

You clean the floor severl times a week, He'll be fine. Just you wait til he's crawling about shoving stuff in his mouth that he shouldn't be :) I realised DS1 would be fine with dirt when I found him eating cat food that the cats had rejected and eating the fake coals from the gas fire. Sigh.

It's good for his immune system.

You'd have a fit if you saw my DS (2). He was just playing in our back yard and had brown stuff all over his mouth and hands. We've got a dog.

Turned out he'd nicked an easter egg out of the fridge without me seeing Grin

Bit o muck never hurt anybody!

the child will be eating lumps of soil and snails and worms soon

don't forget that he needs to build up resistance .. you can be too clean

Wordgirl, He's just started to commando crawl and don't think it'll be long before he's crawling properly.

Still at least the living room looks much better without the bloody blanket!

PP - my dd4 has never eaten anything that wasn't organic and lovingly prepared.

However, I buy the cheapest, shittiest cat food ever.

Yesterday dd got hold of the cat food and had eaten most of it before I found her....

There was a thread on here ages ago along the lines of "Whats the worst thing your child has eaten?"

Believe me children have picked up and eaten all sorts of stuff off the floor...and been OK!

I won't tell you what my DS ate once -it would turn your stomach -but he was fine (DP never heard the end of it though as he was "in charge" when it happened) Wink

No I put the blanket in the wash several times a week.

I hoover everyother day in theliving room, but I suppose now ds is getting more and more mobile it'll have to be everyday. Sad
Do you think I ought to properly clean it? i.e., disinfect it now? I've wooden floor boards.

dd2 is 11 months and crawling all over the place, the other day I found her just about to put a woodlouse into her mouth! I do clean but everything ends up in her gob and she seems to have a pretty robust constitution!

Please don't disinfect your floors. It is completely unnecessary and counterproductive for their developing immune systems.

My wooden floors aren't even that clean. We trudge in with our shoes from outside. They are hoovered and mopped at most every fortnight. Dd eats food that has fallen on it - who cares?

And no, you don't need to disinfect your floor (unless you've been doing something particularly gross on the floorboards that you don't want to tell us about...). I agree with pp -- when he's toddling around outside eating mud you'll wonder why you worried about this!

My dd bottom shuffled and walked late - she was still shuffling round the playground at her brothers' school at 20 months.
