Best Eye patch for a 2 Year Old ?

Have been following other threads re squints and Hausfrau sending great eye patches to Cod.

Ds (2.2) has a squint and got eye patches last week.
They are the Coverlet Junior ones.

He is being brilliant.
We have made a big fuss, daddy is very proud, sticker chart - he has no problem wearing it for an hour.

But they are very, very sticky and he really cries when I take it off.
And they leave a terrible red mark for the rest of the day.

I did ask if he could have the material patch over his glasses, but she said these were the best.

But surely the crying & the red patch is not good.
Are Coverlet the best - or should I be getting ds a different brand ?

Have just re-read and old thread and seen Carol3 ' s link to 'eyepatchheaven' - looks good Carol3 - cheers.
Am also looking at www.perfecteyepatch.com - that looks good too.
Any other suggestions ?

My dd had the fabric ones that went over the glasses and they were 50 times better than coverlet ones. When they cry the patch gets all wet and very unpleasant. It was a pretty one with a picture on and I can honestly say, she never tried to look round it or take it off. She was quite proud of it (or them) and always wore them. They were recommended by a Birmingham Children's Hospital opthalmic surgeon, so they can't be that bad. Also she has retained quite good vision in her "bad" eye and our optometrist has said it was because she has always worn her patch, so I have been very pleased with these fabric patches.

I just looked at the website that you quoted - the patches were similar to that (but it was a few years ago as she is 10 now). We were given them on the NHS - I didn't have to buy them.

i decided that ds3 is best takign his own ppatch off - he does it best

gosh you are lucky wiht only an hour! we are on4!!

i ofudn the ones h f sent me are avaibale in germany but are one euero per patch and ds3 was more allergic to htemt han the coverlet ones

I was getting paranoid that no one was replying.

I have ordered a material one from perfect eye patch - 14.98 Canadian dollars.
Couldn't give a * about the price - I have requested a football material one - ds is football mad - so worth every penny.

Why did she deny me material ones ?
As Jennypog says, if it makes the child wear them, thus eyesight better, surely effective ?
I will ask her when I go back.

Cod - I think 1 hour is not enough - I know , from previous threads, that 4 is the norm.
I have already queried this.
I will be more assertive with my querying, at next appointment.
But as I said, my hospital is not very....'proactive' , so this is no surprise.
Ds would wear it for more.
I will push.

my dd started with only 2 hours and went down to just 1 hour after a few months so the 2 hours must have done the job ok - the 1 hour is just to keep the eye working properly as when you stop patching the bad eye can get worse again. She has the coverlet ones too and takes them off herself - she has not had a problem with red marks though.

It depends on how poor the "lazy" eye is. Sometimes it doesn't take a lot to get it working again!

I agree with that - it is different for each child. It is a few years since my dd was patched, but I think we used to build it up to 4 hours. Her vision always used to improve, but then when the patch was stopped it used to drop down again. This continued until she was about 7 years old and then we stopped patching altogether.

Good luck with his eyes. It is definitely worth the perseverence. Also, my dds eyes are suddenly starting to improve because she is going into that early teenage growth spurt (she is 10). Her specs aren't as thick as they once were, so she is losing the boggle-eyed baby look.
