Enlarged adanoids.

Ever since my son, now 23 months, was born he has snored like an old man, sometimes gasping for air. My GP believes he has enlarged adanoids and has refered him to the hospital to be examined. As the adanoids are located deep in the throat I was wondering how the consultant will examine them and also if they have to be removed, how is it done and how long is the recovery time?

i don't know how they examine them, but i had mine out when I had my tonsils out. It wasn't painful at all (or the tonsil pain outweighed it!)... recovery short

Had mine out at the age of 5. Don't remember pain, just remember having a beautiful new dressing gown with a hood, and eating jelly and ice cream after the operation.
Sorry to say that I still snore....

My dd has had problems with ear and adenoids. The way she was tested was through her breathing, and she was also brought in overnight for a sleep study where her oxygen levels were monitored continually through the night.
