Horizontal bump on each fingernail - anyone know what this is? have you experienced this?

As title says, have tried Googling but there seems there's no one answer.
Should I be worried? Should I see GP?

Never had this before. It's not painful. It looks weird though.

Me! I had it on all my nails after I had my DTDs. Slowly grew out and my nails were fine either side of the bump. I assumed it was something to do with the fact I had twins and the levels of hormones or something or other dropping instantly. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw your question. I was quite sad when the bump got to the end of the fingers as it was the last reminder of being pregnant. Apart from 2 babies that is.

Might not be the same thing as you though Smile.

Oo, that's interesting Pands. I had a baby in November. Could be related, then.
I didn't get this with dc1 but very different pregnancies.
Wonder what it is?
Thanks for sharing

I also had this after children's birth - and also after a period of serious illness. I think it can happen after big life events. This site says it can happen after disruptions in the growth, which can happen in pregnancy, age, stress or illness, so seems to fit!

Ah, thanks for the link. I had a pretty traumatic labour so that's interesting reading, thank you.

Oh yes, mine appeared about 3 months into pg. just thought it was one of those things and then the same thing happened on 2nd pg, weird

I've got horizontal dents in both of my thumbs, they've grown so they are about half way up nail bed if that makes sense.
Had ds two years ago, no obvious causes i can think of either

MousyMouse · 08/02/2013 19:33

I had it after a stressful holiday. and sometimes after an episode of illness/crappy diet/stress.
I put it up to a crap diet and worry during that time

Yeah, another after birth ridges here. I imagined it was because they had been growing with super pregnancy strength until I had the baby, then went back to my usual rubbish nails, leaving a ridge marking the change.
