i went to the dentist last friday for the first time in over 10 years. i nearly had a panic attack in the waiting room but managed to control myself with some deep breathing (and got some very funny looks off the other patients)
surprisingly my teeth are in quite good condition....i need one extraction which i am dreading, but really it's my gums which are the problem. i have been put on antibiotics and they are working already.....i can't believe how uncomfortable my gums were, i was so used to the discomfort it's only now its fading that i realise how bad they were.
my dentist was unbelievably gentle with me......did the minimum amount of prodding necessary and it was really worlds apart from how i remember dental treatment.

you will be fine HONESTLY........i put it off for so long and the fear of losing all my teeth prompted me to get on with it. i've caught my gum problems in the nick of time too!! so please don't be worried............it really will be fine.

Nemo - are you having problems with your teeth, or did you simply decide it was past time for a visit?

Hope you have better luck than me. I just spent £500 having an old filling out, and the tooth capped....Shock

Nemo1977 don't worry too much :) unless you are in agony chances are your teeth aren't in too bad a shape ;)

I'm the type of dental visitor who only drags her carcass there if in agony Grin my turn this Friday... probably need a root canal and crown on one of my teeth, but with the jabs they give you nowadays it's painless bliss :)

You'll be fine :)

Nemo, I'm really impressed - you put me to shame. I still can't bring myself to make an appointment at the dentist and I havent been for over 7 years Blush.

I am now vowing that I've will go after I've had my baby and have stopped breast feeding as I'll have to get some sort of tranquillisers before I'll even make an appointment, never mind actually go - but that wont be for about a year! I wish I could just get over it but I can't even though I know one day soon they could just start really hurting.

good luck and well done!Smile

Am not in agony but I know I need teeth out. Think they have now got that bad that the nerves have diedBlush I went to the dentist 4 1/2yrs ago because I was getting married so literally had teeth cleaned and that was it. Have been meaning for the past 3yrs since pg with ds to go but have put it off. It is only because my teeth are now so bad they need sorting. Plus want ds to get used to dentist from a young age to stop him having any problems.

Am lucly as treatment should be free as I have a4mth old.
