I've received a neurology appointment - what happens next?

In short Ive had some fits in my sleep - woken up aching, having bitten my tounge and feeling generally spaced out. DP has seen me fitting.

I've been to GP and he said it was probably epilepsy and referred me to neurologist. Counting my blessings that I don't drive anyway as first thing he said was to stop driving.

I've just got an appointment for start of March. I'm a bit nervous and worried about it all. Can anyone tell me what's likely to happen next please? What will happen at appointment? Are there going to be lots of tests then and there or will I be back and forth to hospital? This is a new world to me and I feel a bit frightend to be honest :(

I have just been to see a neurologist at the hospital.This was my first appointment.

He asked me lots of questions about general health. Then gave me a short examination looking at the way my body reacted and if my body could feel various stimulus, tuning fork, pin. Nothing too tough.

I have been called back for various tests, ECG tests, MRI. ECG is next Friday.

Better to get it seen to, I have left it so long.

I have epilepsy. At first app they usually ask lots of questions then book you in for an EEG (electrodes stuck to your head with glue! ), MRI and maybe a CT scan, dependent on results of those they may or may not start medication and make a diagnosis. Dependent on what diagnosis they may advise you to claim DLA as wellm good luck!

Me too. Exactly as Sanna said, they'll ask you questions (and measure BP etc), then will probably do EEG. This can be shortish (maybe 30 mins or so?), or, last one I had involved wearing the thing for 24 hours (so going to hospital one day to have the electrodes attached, back the following day to have them removed.
It is scary, but is manageable and liveable with. Your hospital may have an epilepsy liaison nurse who can advise re day-to-day life. Once you have a diagnosis you will be eligible for free bus travel and a disabled persons railcard. There is a site called www.forum4e.co.uk that you may find helpful.

DP saw the fits. I didn't. In fact as they happened in my sleep I was not even aware of them. Would it be a good idea to get him to come with me so he can tell them what he saw or will that make no real difference either way.

I think it would be idea to go with him anyway - he may be able to add some value in terms of being able to describe what he saw, but more than that, he can hear, and remember on your behalf what the consultant has to say. There can be quite a lot to take in - some consultants I've had (over the last 30 years!) have been fantastic communicators, some slightly less so - if someone else can listen and/or ask questions that can be helpful.
I hope he can get there!

Tomorrow I have first appointment with neurologist at the hospital.
Had one seizure fit 2 months ago and have not been able to drive since.
Had numerous blood tests at GP, and had a CT brain scan last month that was clear.
Hoping to get some answers tomorrow - and maybe even all clear.

to go back for MRI scan.

The unknown saga continues....
