Ds1 suffered a dislocation and severe hyperextension to his right thumb yesterday playing rugby. He went to A&E and had it reduced. The staff were concerned as his thumb was very lax and feared ligament damage so arranged for him to visit the fracture clinic this morning. He has just rung and described his treatment...Dr walked in to the room he was put in, didn't examine his hand at all, told him to leave the bandage on for 2 weeks and said he could start playing again in a month. Ds says his hand is filthy underneath as it hasn't been cleaned up and it feels awful. A&E were going to send him to Dr Batts in Horsham but thought he should get checked out first in their fracture clinic. Sorry but I think the 'care' received today is really poor. When did our Dr's of today become psychic? Why no physical examination. I am an ex-nurse who has worked in an emergency clinic here in the Alps and know that that wouldn't happen here.
Feeling very frustrated that I am here in France, he is in year 13 at school there and I am worried about his care.
