DD is 8 months, yesterday a rash appeared on her hands, arms and legs. Just small red dots some raised , some not.

I took her to docs and they said it was nothing to worry about as she is still alert, eating o.k etc..She has just finished course of penicillin for an ear infection.

Anyway last night she was very unsettled, and today has a few spots on her face.

Anyone had similar experience, did it just go on its own ? any ideas would be great

My ds4 also has a rash on his tummy and back. He's been a little under the weather but has been better since the rash appeared.
In the past when I've taken various offspring to gp or hv with rashes I'm told it's a non-specific post viral rash! It tends to disappear after a few days.
What about eczema - this can sometimes be rashy - are the spots weepy?

Thanks tallmummy, Spots aren't weepy, 1 knee inparticular is very rashy (??), she has just started crawling.

Went to a friends yesterday who has a cat, if she was allergic to cat would that start in a rash and last this long ?

It might do. Did she have any other symptons from the cat - sneezing, runny nose, sore eyes?

Someone else posted a very similar experience not too long ago. Maybe ghosty? Anyway, it turned out to be a reaction to the penicillin. If this is truly what it is, you need to be careful with her as drug reactions can be worse the next time she is given the drug. Anytime there are two things that could be linked, such as a recent round of antibiotics and a rash, I always consider it more likely that they are linked versus two separate incidents, i.e. and outbreak of eczema and an unrelated round of antibiotics IYKWIM.

no other symptoms, this has baffled me.

Makes sense it may be a reaction to the penicillin, the nurse i saw yesterday said it may be a reaction to it but didn't seem to concerned.

how do u find out if it was that ?

Not sure if there is a definitive test, other than exposing her again, which I wouldn't feel comfortable with. tbh, I would just have them use something other than penicillin from now on. There are lots of alternatives.

A Few weeks ago my DD at the same thing. went to the docs and they said in was non specific virus but it got a lot worse over the weekend so I went back on the Monday and it turned out to be German Measles!!!! They couldn't give her anything but it cleared up over a week
