Numb arm and sore wrists and hands - any ideas?

For the last day or so I?ve had numbness and pins and needles type tingling in both arms off and on throughout the day. My wrists are sore and I have stiff finger joints. There?s slight swelling in some fingers. It?s worse when I lie down and had a very disturbed night last night with it. It?s just come on from out of nowhere with no obvious cause. Any clues as to what this might be anyone? I'm 32.

It sounds very much like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Poptart - where the ligament surrounding the median nerve in the wrist becomes inflamed, and compresses the nerve, especially if you "curl" your hands while asleep. I've recently suffered from CTS, and bought a wrist splint to wear at night which keeps the wrist in a straight postion (not very glamorous!), and it definitely helps - your local chemist should have them.
I am waiting for a referral for a nerve conductivity test at the local hospital, but in the meantime, it seems to have cleared up on its own.
There is a tendency to get it if your thyroid is underactive, but that's not a given.
Pop to your GP, and see what he/she says, and see if you can buy a wrist splint, they do seem to work!

Thanks for the reply Nan, I will get myself a wrist splint and make an appointment at the GP

Could also be tendinitis. I get it and it's very painful and limits the amount of movement I have in my hand. A splint would help this too and you can have a steroid injection into you wrist that will help.
