As a child of the seventies, will I have been vacinated against mumps?

Mums says I had everything she was offered, but can't remember. I know it was before MMR, but not sure if there was a single vaccine offered as standard then.

I was born in 72 and I wasn't. I did catch mumps when I was a child and it wasn't very nice!

Oh dear, not what I wanted to hear. 1970 here and there's been a child in the school where I work who's had "swollen glands" for the last 7 days, now diagnosed as mumps. She is apparently vaccinated, which is why she hasn't actually been unwell.

i was born in 1976 in scotland and wasn't though my parents did accept everything offered. i had it at about 8ish.

I was given everything available and wasn't vaxed for mumps. You sure you didn't get it as a child? It can sometimes be quite mild.

There was no licenced mumps vaccine on NHS in UK before MMR was rolled out in 1988.

So unless you were overseas, or your family had a private doctor, it's unlikely you'll have been immunised.

My eldest was born in 1980 and didn't catch mumps naturally. I remember being quite concerned that he might catch it as an adult. He did have the MMR eventually. There was a big catch-up of school children. Whole school years were given the MMR. I think it was done to stop measles and rubella spreading mainly. I can't remember the year but doubt if someone born in 1970 would have been included.

I've never caught it as far as I know. Would I be in for a nasty illness if I got it as an adult?

1972 and I wasn't. DH had mumps 6 years ago which wasn't pleasant

1972 as well, and had mumps at the age of 12, so I guess that I wasn't vaccinated. I missed the Measles jab as well (according to my mum, I was always poorly when she got the appointments through and then she never got round to it . When there was the recent outbreak of measles, I asked if I could be given the MMR but was told that there was no funding in our PCT for adults to be vaccinated.

Don't think I've had it, Mum's sure I didn't and I know the only time I had off school in my whole school career was 7 days when I had chicken pox.

WOHM with no family nearby, so I guess I could have been sent to school with it,but can't have been very ill

I was born in 85 and wasn't vaccinated. mum thought I had been but it turned out I'd had the mr quite a few times but never the mmr. only found out when I cought mumps while pregnant with dd. it's not fun. I hope you haven't caught it.

I was born in 1968 and was vaccinated against mumps and measles. I think there was a big campaign in about 1972-3. I've never had either so it must have worked.

My parents were against vaccination for whooping cough due to known issues with and I got WC in 1977, then rubella in 1978 (to which I still have excellent immunity).

Born 1973. I caught the mumps at age 4.5 so I guess I was not vaccinated.

You can have MMR as an adult, might be worth it. Too late if you already have it though

I was not vacinated against mumps < born too long ago>, but did get it aged 16. I wasn't ill, just hurt my mouth/jaw when trying to stuff my mouth full of food- so was more annoyed than anything.
Went to GPs on my own, and he found a lump at back of ear lobe/top of side neck. Told me I was infectious and to stay indoors for 2 weeks. So long ago, can't remember if he prescribed me antibiotics or not.

We didn't need appts in those days.

My unvacintated parents and younger sis did not get it - only me.

but I have an international vaccination document , so all vaccs are documented in there.

1972, had mumps aged 5 or 6 (judging by age of DB 'looking after' me in photo, aw) so obviously hadn't been vaccinated.
