So I have 'the cough' ongoing for weeks since Christmas. I also have 'the sinus frontal lobe' which wakes me up moving and clicking every morning like an apocalyptic alarm clock for months now. Two weeks ago I had fever and aches and night sweats for one night only, perfectly fine the next day (my daughter had similar so quite reassured it is same virus) but by mid week after I have severe hives for two days which have been downgraded to mild itchiness and now added to by severe muscular and joint aches. Not like flu aches but as if I had done a marathon. That was 2 days now I am left for the last 3-4 days with swollen hands and feet with mild joint aches. Sorry this is longer than I would have liked but I am going to continue...I have googled like a goodun and feel it is my autoimmune response having a few things at once and I think this is quite common, but. How long does the swollen joint thing last?
I do have a doctor's appointment (next Tuesday haha!) but feel sad looking at my pudding hands.

I've experienced only 2 forms of allergies and that is since I've got older. Had none when younger.
The most dangerous, when I have to be admitted to hospital by ambulance < twice since 2010> was when I had a virus, and that was the swollen tongue allergy, which can suffocate or choke you to death. But only when I had a raised temperature. Allergies are so individual, and some can come and go with no real concrete explanation.

Your swollen hands and feet are not an allergy I know of, but other causes.
Hope your Doc can figure it out for you.
Have you been taking any medication?

Wow, makes me feel better! Your tongue swelled up after a virus!?
I would look at it being the arrival of arthritis or something but with the fever and that and the hives it sounds more like an immune reaction. It does feel a little better today. In bed, if I moved my legs to a different position it would cramp up with aches afterwards - that seems to have gone down a lot. I guess I will see what the doctor says. I have got a goiter which biopsied as a benign cyst and am waiting for my second set of thyroid function tests to come back. I think a dodgy throid function can give you those symptoms but my instinct is it was the night of fever that I had. Anyway, I don't want to go on about it! I just wanted to see if anyone could tell me how long it would go on for if it had happened to them...

Well, I had an overactive Thyroid < Hyper thyroidism> when I was 25, and it went undiagnosed for a long time. Diagnosed only when my whole Thyroid gland swelled up into a goitre and my eyes bulged .
But during the treatment with Carbimazole, I was overdosed and my Thyroid was hardly producing any Thyroxine at all< so extreme underactive>
During this time I had terrible cramp in all my muscles- even those I didn't know I had, and blew up like a barrel putting 2 stone on in 10 weeks .
During the years of being overactive, I had lost 2 stone despite never stopping eating.
Your Thyroid blood results should give a diagnosis of under or overactive, or some other problem.

If it is your Thyroid not working properly, it depends on whether it is under or overactive.
With over active, I was hot all the time. People with underactive often have the opposite, feeling cold.
Underactive is much easier to cure than overactive.

I'm not sure I am being bothered by the thyroid. Last bloods were normal. I have some of the symptoms but everyone probably has some of them...
My hands are 80% better than this morning even so I am hoping it is going. That would be 5 days since the aching started. I dread hypothryroidism as I hear that the drugs to stabilise that don't sort the weight gain out. I have put a little weight on literally in the last few days 4lbs or so but I put it down to water retention from this swelling business. I also have monster pmt so it could be bloating from that - see all this could be down to the menapause too.
Sigh, I give up. No point in guessing eh?

No. You'll have to wait for the Thyroid function tests to come back, and if OK, then.that is at least ruled out.
Symptoms of Hypo - underactive include weight gain, so taking Thyroxine should make you lose the weight gained. But if the menopause, the imbalance of hormones can mimic Thyroid problems.
Glad about the hands. Know only about water retention showing in the feet and ankles.
My right hand only swells up after too much pruning in the garden and is due to arthritis.< joys of getting older>
Hope you continue to improve and get answers and successful
treatment.
