I have been told I have fibroids in uterus and ovary stuck to uterus...need advice please

Hi, I am not a regular on here but would welcome advice.
My gp suspected I had ibs as have intermittent bloating (tummy flares up like I am 4 months pregnant) and had bowel problems. However, another gp asked how my periods were, rather than concentrating on the bowel problems and bloating. They are awful, terribly heavy and very painful so sent for scan. Scan revealed fibroids and that one of my ovaries is stuck to uterus..I am now awaiting gynae referral. I would welcome advice as to whether fibroids can cause such tummy bloating, maybe the ibs doesnt exist and perhaps it is all interlinked to the fibroids??? I am only a size 8 but feel so full, heavy and fat around my tummy. Also, why might my ovary be attached to my uterus? Can fibroids and these types of problems cause bowel interference?? Think the other GP actually asking about your periods was far more perceptive that the original GP.

Endometriosis is a very common and under diagnosed cause of severe period pain (its not seen on scans, it is usually diagnosed via a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy) and this can also cause heavy bleeding to arise. It can also cause stomach problems (and can be misdiagnosed as IBS).

Fibroids can indeed cause bloatedness within the uterus.

BTW have you had any sort of abdominal surgery to date e.g appendix removal?. The gynae you'll see is likely to ask you whether you've had any such surgery. Any sort of abdominal surgery can cause adhesions to arise; these are like sticky strands that tether organs together. Drug treatment on its own will not touch adhesions, the usual way these are dealt with is to have them removed surgically.

Hope you get to see a gynae soon; I would be asking this person lots of questions.
