convinced myself I've got whooping cough anyone actually had it as an adult ?

i m on antibiotics anyway but today the coughing spasm has completely wiped me out. I mean my eyes are red and swollen and I coughed until I was sick and almost passed out because I couldn't get my breath.i t happens mostly at night but today in the office i had to call my DH and actually couldn't even dial the number for a couple of mins. it was horrible and even tho the bouts seem to be getting less this was the worst . Feel like I pulled muscles even across my neck chest and shoulders it was that bad.
I'm sleeping ( when I can ) sitting up bu have made the silly mistake of looking on Internet !

A friend of mine was told she had whooping cough and a few weeks later she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Go to your nearest walk in centre tomorrow or if you get worse, go to a&e.

I think that our whole family just had it. Husband came back from Paralympics with this cough, and had coughing fits where he had to hold on to things, and kept being sick into his mouth (sorry) Then I got it, and it was like a cough, and the inhale after the cough caused another nasty cough, and they came in episodes, with no coughing in between. My children all had a cough too, and my son would have coughing episodes during the night that went on for a few minutes, he was also sick a couple of times. I think their coughs were much milder than ours because they have been vaccinated . It lasted about 3 months for me n husband. My Mum now has it and was very when i suggested it was whooping cough, but if you read the symptoms, it sounds like it.

My sister was diagnosed with "whooping cough" last year: then a few days later that was changed to "oh shit, it's actually pneumonia" and she ended up in hospital (fortunately briefly.)

She lives in Edinburgh, and this was during the Legionnaires outbreak they had last year (she lives one street over from the cooling towers blamed for spreading the disease) so her GP reckoned she'd actually had Legionnaires, and this was the result.

Yes, does sound like whooping cough to me. My DS caught it at 3 weeks old. He was hospitalised with it twice. Still having coughing bouts at 7 months old. If it is wc it will last a long long time. Pneumonia can be a complication of wc but it is more often with babies under 3 months (for whom it can be fatal) or adults with compromised immunity/ elderly. Keep going back to doctor, abd get them to check that the antibiotic you are on covers wc. Had to go 4 times and hospital twice before got diagnosis. Sorry, I know you were asking about adults with wc but just chipping in. Also avoid going anywhere near babies under 3 months please.

Sorry I meant wc can be fatal for babies under 3 months. Obviously pneumonia can be fatal at any age.

I had it just before Christmas. At 30, been a school teacher who was vaccinated I was shocked!

Had chest infection , cough went from mucas to dry. I had a horrible acid taste and an elephant on my chest causing dreadful heartburn.

Hacked so much I tore a muscle in stomach. Hacked at night till I could not breath, felt the breath had been knocked out my body then to find myself heaving.... Not a I am going to be sick just I was sick. Got burst blood vessel in eye then.

Desperate for GP appointment and finally got one after work as work an hour from school. Had to plead with receptionist and said about vomiting .....

Explained symptoms to GP, who said WC..... After a week they do a swab and two blood. Could not get a blood sample but gave me anti bios.....

The blue inhaler gave me the best relief but honestly 5 weeks on I m taking sleeping tablets as its broken my sleep pattern. Had fri to mon off as snow at school and feel better than I have in a long time. Still don't feel me but not a sleep deprived zombie!
