hope you feel much better soon

mistressmiggins · 21/04/2006 21:23

barley water is meant to be good

chapsmum · 21/04/2006 21:40

try to drink as much as you can and make an effort not to pee untill you know your bladder is full. You can get OTC remidies from asda.
Brufen and paracetmaol.
But esentially you want to nutralise your pee by making it as week as possible. Cranberry jusice stops bacteria stickin got the wall of the urehtra but is quite acidic, so dilute it!
Will find the name of those remidies for you...

boil barley strain it through a muslin and drink the water, never tried it but my old boss used to swear by it.

Tea tree oil diluted in warm water and poured over you helps soothe it.

bramblina · 21/04/2006 21:42

Potassium Citrate mixture, I'm sure you can get it over the counter but perhaps only from a chemist.

mazzystar · 21/04/2006 21:44

bicarbonate of soda diluted in water - tastes vile but works

get well soon

chapsmum · 21/04/2006 21:46

am sure you can get Canetsten Oasis from Asda

failing that you could try drinkin a sloution of bicarb of soda disolved in water to try to nutralise your pee

snap mazzy!

lalaa · 21/04/2006 21:50

don't eat or drink anything with sugar in it - that makes it worse.

SleepyJess · 21/04/2006 21:51

Cystopurin is another OTC remedy isn't it? However, if it persists you may need to see the doc and get some antibiotics. It depends whether is inflammatory or bacterial cystitis.

Meanwhile have a pint of water beside you constantly and make sure you drink as much as you can every half an hour. You will pee like a racehorse - but it won't hurt because of the excess of fluid and will flush you out well. Take plenty of water to bed as well.. about 3 pints!

If you think you need antibiotics over the weekend (and they work like magic within hours!) you can call an out of hours gp and have him phone a prescription through to you nearest Boots or similar.

get DH to get cranberry juice from asda (ocean spray has higher concentration than own brand) and you might want the light one as less sugar and drink 1 or 2 litres. It's been the only thing that's worked for me.

Baths with tea tree oil are soothing oh and don't worry about weeing in the shower - it's less painful!!

jenk1 · 21/04/2006 23:11

thanks everyone for the tips, DH has got me some cranberry juice and an OTC from ASDA.

Still in pain though but am going to loo straightaway so maybe need to hold on longer, sorry if too much info!!!
