Also apologies as it is a pretty pointless thread as I have a scan at the hospital ion Thursday but I have got myself into a right state and that seems a long time away

I went to the GP before Christmas as my periods have gone awry- no biggie as I am 48 and we agreed probably menopause starting- the only reason I went was because 20 years ago I was told I would need HRT due to osteoporosis in family- that is not the advice they give now so we agreed no action.

A few weeks later I went back because of a persistent pain in my stomach: it was odd, on left side just below my rips and very localised as if someone was poking a finger into me, permanently. Not very painful, more irritating, but I was concerned as it didn't ease. Hence scan on Thursday as doc had no idea.

Blood was taken and the surgery have informed me that they came back with no action required.

The letter from hospital says kidney scan which surprised me. Although pain has now shifted more to my back since I saw doctor-there was no pain there at time-pain in abdomen is more intermittent now.

On dec 28th I started my period after a 55 day wait and am still bleeding. After 5 days it tailed off (normally only bleed for 5 days) and was more like spotting but yesterday it became heavier and is still heavy today and I have painful cramps.

I also see blood on tissue when I wipe my bum and it was sore last night. That is bright red blood and I think has a perfectly harmless explanation having had a straining issue a couple of weeks ago.

I don't really expect advice but just wanted to get my fears down- I sinned last night-I googled and googled worst case scenario and scared living daylights out of myself

I had my children late- they are aged 11 and almost 9.

Blimey have a medal if you have reached the end of this.

No advice, just wanted to offer an hand to hold. I can understand you being a little afraid, I would be too. BUT, you have said yourself, the back passage blood is likely from straining (and if you're sore to touch, most likely a fissure) so please don't worry about that

I hope the scan helps show what is causing the pain, and puts your mind at rest

Thank you jim- just wish I could fast forward to Thursday.

Are you having a scan on a full bladder at Gyne dept? Ultrasound scan?

Nishky · 11/01/2013 19:18

I am not sure digerd- the letter just says that it is the X ray department for a kidney ultra-sound scan: I assumed they may scan other places if I explain the issues.

Hi I had a scan for my gall bladder and in hops letter it was down as kidney scan so it may just be something they write on the letter as they also scanned my ovaries, bowel, bladder, as well as gallbladder , liver , kidneys etc. good luck

Nishky · 11/01/2013 20:03

Thanks sanna that is reassuring.
