Dental treatment and Diazepam

I have been given a prescription for Diazepam to help with my dental phobia. I am going for a small filling on Saturday, I have my noise reduction headphones and my prescription (5mg the night before and 10mg one hour before appointment).
My question is how will I feel? I suffer from anxiety at the best of times and am now anxious about the effects. There was no leaflet with the tablets so I don't know about side effects.
Anyone else had this? Please reassure me.

I have taken temazepam which is a Benzodiazepine like diazapam, before a dentist appt. I was also really nervous about taking it fearing it would knock me out. It just made me super relaxed like nothing really mattered. I felt a little drunk in a good way.

Is somebody driving you to the appointment?

My DD is taking me over. The dentist was really nice and this appointment is for a very small filling in one of my front teeth (drilling for 15 seconds!). There will always be anxiety about the dentist for me but I would really like to be able to go regularly and not panic or vomit.
Thanks for the replies.

I had it once when I'd cricked my neck and the muscles were all tight. It was bloody marvellous stuff, felt so relaxed, but not in a drunk or queasy way. I can see why they're addictive!

I've taken it for flying. I'm also a dentist and have treated patients who have taken it for treatment. Good luck with your treatment, I'm sure you'll be fine :)

I've taken it for a bad back and for anxiety - only 2mg. with what you've got, it will make you really chilled out, should iron out the anxious feelings. Lovely Smile
(I always ask to hold the dental nurse's hand too!)

Well that was so easy, diazepam really helped as did the noise reduction headphones. Got to go back for two more fillings in two weeks time but am ok with that. Thanks for the replies.

Well done Smile Glad you got through it. Often the anticipation is worse than the event!

I am very proud of myself, first filling conscious for many many years :)

You reminded me of years ago, when I was too scared to even have an injection in my gum, and I paid extra for a vailium injection in my arm.
My head kept lolling all over the place I was so sedated - almost out of it, and didn't care. Even had a GA for a tooth extraction. But eventually braved the injection in the gum and felt nothing.

Well done.
