Anyone know anything about femoral bypass?

My mum needs one.
She is, obv worried and needs to stop smoking also which she will find very hard.
Any advice/tips gratefully recieved...

Saw a documentary on TV of it being done, from the lower stomach to both upper leg arteries.
My DB had blocked femoral arteries, but after the angiogram, they said he didn't need it just both blowing through and tenting, which he had done 13 years ago.

She can't have the balloon proceedure as the blockage is far too large apparently...it's taken the GPS so long to send her for referral that the damage has been done I think :(

Smoking is the cause and she urgently needs to quit (I know it's hard)

I know...I have been begging both my parents to quit since I was a child...:(
She will have to now.
She has no choice.
I have been reading and am worried about the risk of her losing her leg...she had varicose vein surgery 20 odd years ago so this isn't the first issue she has had with veins in her legs.
The first gp she saw sent her for physio...which of course made things 10 x worse :(
She isn't overweight thank goodness - if anything the opposite so I hope that will be in her favour.

She has had lots of ill health - all my life really (hysterectomy x 2 prolapse repair x 2) and lots of other minor ops but this is the first time I have been really really worried iyswim?
Oh, and my dad has got digestive issues and has just had to have an endoscopy and has been dx as having bacteria in his intestine (?)

NHS do lots of stop smoking initiatives. She stands far better chance using those
