Does this sound like norovirus to you? And when to return to work?

Does this sound like norovirus to you?

Woke up Thursday morning feeling sick, bad stomach cramps (blaming DH's hot curry he cooked the night before in an it-must-have-been-too-spicy-for-me way and not a he-poisoned-me way!)

By Thursday afternoon had zero energy, had to go back to bed, still feeling sick and having stomach cramps. Slept intermittently. Aching all over and shivery.

Friday morning the diarrhoea started. Could barely get out of bed. Could hardly cope with drinking water. Eventually was sick at about 1.00 am. Diarrhoea continued Sat morning and was sick once more on Saturday afternoon.

Feeling a little better today in that I'm no longer feeling sick and don't have diarrhoea. Stomach still cramping. Managing to eat stuff like toast and soup. Feel unbelievably weak, dizzy and fatigued though. Tried to take the tree decs down this morning and once I'd done that I had to go back to bed as the room was swimming.

I'm supposed to be in work tomorrow? Is it too soon? Or given that I was last sick yesterday afternoon does that count as 48hours?

TIA

I'd see how you feel in the morning. If you still dont feel right them phone in sick

Thanks. What worries me is that I have a history of going back to work thinking I feel better and then realising I don't... Mostly through fear of letting people down etc. Was wondering when the 48 hour rule starts from...

The 48 hours starts from the last D or V you had. Don't worry about feeling better, tomorrow is too early if you were ill on Saturday pm.

Yes, it does sound like norovirus. The time to return to work is when you are fit for work.

It would be unwise to go to work if you're weak and ill: you won't be very effective or alert, and could cause more problems in your workplace than if you were absent.

If in doubt, phone your doc or NHS direct for advice.

Take care, hope you feel better soon!
