Dry January - a month off the booze - anyone want to join me?

Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 14:54

I am determined to do this - I drink most days, it's become a habit, just a glass or two, more at weekends, but really want to give myself an extended break.

The worst time of day for me is between 6-8 pm, before we eat. So am going to try and eat earlier and it would be great if I could come on here and get some support about that time of day!

does anybody want to have a dry January with me?

And yes I do have a hangover today Grin

My oh has low morphology hence the no drinking. What did your oh have if you don't mind saying?

Snowkey · 16/01/2013 22:32

He had a very low sperm count (previously diagnosed with another dp) - the little buggers were barely moving....we did think when we went to see them that it was going to be a sperm donor but 6 months later when we were ready to start they had made a miraculous recovery - almost normal they said - still I wasn't pg despite trying for a couple of years. I always reckoned I worked my magic! Wink

So the no drinking must have helped? Good to know!

I don't know if it helped - but it certainly didn't do any harm and it made dh a little more involved - sometimes the men can feel a bit outside the process. I'd do the same thing again though. Fingers crossed.

twinklestar2 · 16/01/2013 22:49

Thx snow :)

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 17/01/2013 02:38

Another day ticked off. Staying with friends tonight, they all had a small glass of white with dinner and I didn't feel left out at all with my water Grin.

Snowkey · 17/01/2013 07:23

Oh well done NeitherShredded I would have found that hard.

gazzalw · 17/01/2013 08:57

We had some secondary fertility issues (five year gap twixt our two) and although we never had it investigated wonder whether it was due to heavy alcohol consumption on my part Blush.

Day 17....the light is at the end of the tunnel - this has been a very long month but I am not really missing the alcohol....But it's just good to know that come February we can have a drink if we want to..... Grin....

Snowkey · 17/01/2013 09:51

gazz the alcohol limitation was more to help Dh's little swimmers.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 17/01/2013 11:26

Snow - from what gazz has said elsewhere on the thread I think he's a bloke Grin.

Snowkey · 17/01/2013 14:40

Blush oh! probably didn't make that much difference,

gazzalw · 17/01/2013 18:20

That was amusing Snowkey Grin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 18/01/2013 04:19

Another day done Smile. Friends abstained as well tonight Grin.

Matildaduck · 18/01/2013 07:18

Op, are you still on the wagon?

18 days done. I'm thinkin a glass of wine would be nice. Someone said week three is the hardest... i' not struggling just looking forward to it i think.

My caffeine has been reduced and the headache is back. :-(

Snowkey · 18/01/2013 08:56

I find the first couple of weeks easy - I almost look forward to January and not drinking - feels like something my body needs...but then I get over that and by week three I'm counting down the days to the 1st Feb. Dh is the complete opposite though - he struggles with the first few days and then says he could do it forever - never does though. Grin

TWinklyLittleStar · 18/01/2013 12:48

I'm off work today, lots of snow - it would be such a nice day to trudge to the pub and settle in front of the fire with a bottle of wine. Cranberry juice just won't cut it. Sigh.

tuffinmop · 18/01/2013 20:19

I have to admit to finding it hard tonight, making chilli just is not the same without a glass of full bodied red in my hand, dancing round the kitchen a bit tipsy to Nina Simone......
sigh.... this abstinence is boring, I think I quite like the hedenist in me and the warm fuzzy feeling wine gives me. 12 days to go Grin

Matildaduck · 18/01/2013 20:40

My dh brough a fab bottle of red home tonight ( work gift) its looking at me on the coffee table. And will continue to for another 12 days.

Ruprekt · 18/01/2013 21:00

18 days without a sniff of alcohol!

Think i will keep going. Am liking the energy levels in me particularly in the mornings.

Snowkey · 18/01/2013 21:29

MN Cyber pub on the 1st then?

I missed it tonight, had a very busy day, with lots of kids. That always make me want to shut myself away with a big glass of red. Had to settle for water and a cuddle....which worked just as well for now!

rubberglove · 18/01/2013 21:33

I struggled tonight but abstained. I miss wine!

notnowdarling · 18/01/2013 23:46

I think it means That although I still drink regularly, on the whole I overdo it a lot less!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 19/01/2013 00:34

I missed it as well tonight - I was on a Friday night flight, surrounded by people boozing. I knitted instead.

gazzalw · 19/01/2013 10:46

It's not quite the same, knitting is it....but well done for resisting...

As predicted I think we are all beginning to find this quite difficult.... I personally think that the worst thing is that even though we are in our third week we still have nearly two weeks to go....Sad....

but it has done wonders for my bank balance and that in itself is an eye-opener!
