Toxic Shock - anyone had it?

After a tampon incident the other day I appear to have developed TSS. There is no blood test for it but given my symptoms, the dr said it was likely what I had. I know, who'd be so stupid to have a tampon incident but it happened. When I saw dr yesterday he gave me 2 lots of antibiotics for it and a throat infection I also have. I feel so incredibly drained - has anyone had this? How long will I feel this way?

haven't had it and hope you recover very quickly -I always worry that I've left a tampon in - it's scary !

Amanda, are you sure he said yo actually have TSS?
Toxic shock syndrome is a form of blood poisening. It can make you very very unwell.
Info on \link{http://www.toxicshock.com/
\this} website.
There are certain blood test that should be done if he really did suspect TSS. and he should have at least swabbed your throat/vagina to see if the staphluicocyl bug which causes the infection was present.
Were you in hospital at all?

How do you mean 'a tampon incident'? Did you leave one in too long?

TSS is very rare. You get a very high temp, vomiting, etc - have you had this? Your doc seems rather blase, imo, if he really does think that's what you have - it can make you extremely ill.

I'm not disbelieving you, btw! - just think it might be more likely to be the throat infection that's making you feel rough? Hope you're feeling better soon, anyway.

One of my houesmates at college got TSS - this was 20 years ago now. She was very unwell for days, lots of vomiting and diahorrea, before her boyfriend decided to call an ambulance as she had deteriorated so much. She was in hospital for weeks and if I remember rightly, had to have 2 blood transfusions. I always thought that TSS had these very severe symptoms, rather than the seemingly milder ones you appear to have. I agree with chapsmum and snafu about your doc. Could you see another at the surgery to ask a 2nd opinion. I do hope you feel better soon btw. Whatever you have sounds unpleasant.
