Over counter cream for sore, swollen labia/clitoris? Ouch :'(

Can anyone recommend an over the counter topical cream for a slightly swollen, very, very sore but not itchy labia and clitoris? :'(

It's abso killing me to the point I can barely walk around. I've tried nappy cream and Oilatum excema cream but they seem to make it worse. Even pads of cool water soon dry out and no longer offer relief.

I don't know the cause, doesn't seem like thrush as no thrush symptoms.

Also, I'm confused as to which cream could be applied internally (well, in the folds of the labia and clitoris, not inside vagina). No local walk in clinic near me, doc not open, Etc.

Try Durex Aloe Vera lube. Worked wonders on my stitches.

I'd bet it's still thrush. Even with no itching or discharge. Try some canestan.

I have been shaving bikini line last few days and the regrowth stubble may be what's antagonising it too. I had a smear test the other day and wonder too if the gel lubricant has reacted poorly on me.

Meanwhile I have to head in town with two little nippers dragging myself around shops looking for a gift and the idea of chafing excessively is making me nervous, but I can't get out of the trip.

I'll look at Canesten, but again Inwonder if you can apply it right in the folds, nooks and crannies! I'm assuming naturally produced lubricant is ideal, but I'm unusually dry.

Coconut oil (high grade). It has anti-fungal properties but more importantly feels very soothing and can be used as lube (obviously not with condoms) so is safe internally.

I've had random swelling a few times, usually after sex when the arousal won't go down for some reason. But it could be a reaction to the shaving, or an allergy.

Ok thanks I'll have a look at all recommendations at the chemist. It's certainly not something Inwant to stand there and talk about to the pharmacist on the shop floor, idea of saying labia and clitoris out loud in front of other customers is highly disconcerting to me!

Canestan cream for thrush is fine to use all over. It could well be thrush. I had very similar symptoms a few months ago - extremely sore but no itching - and Canestan cleared it up very quickly.

Sounds like thrush to me - I would try the oral tablet as well as the cream if I were you.

I would use canesten for thrush. If you keep putting on water based products you will make the area worse. I know its tempting when it feels so dry. You need something to moisturise the area. If the canesten has no effect then go to the GP' on Monday as it could be bacterial. If you have garlic pearls take them. They are a natural antibiotic and certainly help me stave off cystitis attacks. Get some high stength ones and take the max dose. You could always ask to talk on the phone to the practice nurse. The doctors sometimes write scripts for minor things like this without seeing the patient. That could be less embarrassing. .

I get internal thrush quite regular and never have the itch. My doctor prescribes me canesten cortisone cream. I use a syringe (from kiddies nurofen) to insert it followed by a tampon to keep it in for a few hours. Hope you find some relief soon x

Vagisil with lidocaine seems to have worked. Stings at first but has moisturised and calmed it well now. Such a relief!

Has anyone else had a skin reaction to smear gel incidentally?

I am wondering if the antibiotics I've just taken might be contributory too, ie they have impaired the good bacteria in that area :/

I react to lots of things. Condoms being a major one. They leave me very sore and swollen have tried every type on the market latex non latex ones with spermicide and ones without but I still react.

I wonder if it was a reaction to latex from the nurses gloves?

Vagisil works for me too after sex and after any kind of vaginal examination. If its particularly bad I take an anti histamine to.

Antibiotics could well be to blame, I often get a nasty attack of thrush when I've had antibiotics. Glad you've found some relief though!

Could it be folliculitis? (Maybe spelt wrong.) Can be caused by shaving.... Antibiotics cleared mine up in a few days but it was bloody agony! See a doc if you can.

Have you used a condom recently? I developed a sudden latex allergy not long ago and that's what this felt like, it was agony.

Just noticed Daisy already said that. Gloves seem a much more likely explanation but totally agree about the latex!

I rarely take a course of antibiotics without getting thrush.

I had an internal recently and was extremely sore and uncomfortable for a few days afterwards. Not sure what caused it. I have used Canesten cream to soothe and an antihistamine tablet. I've never had this before.

bartholins cyst or blocked bartholins gland ? Is it mainly on one side? wear a long skirt and no knickers and go to the doctor. take ibuprofen for swelling and go to doctors in the morning or walk in centre.

I can't understand why you are trying all this over the counter stuff. I had very itchy and soreness on outer lips of vagine and my lovely female GP said it looked a bit like excema and gave me hydrocortisone cream - 4 days and it's gone. Women GPs are made the same way as us you know!!

I've had this recently and Canesten cleared it up (after the second dose).
