Does anyone want to have a go at giving up smoking with me in the New Year?

We can decide on a quit date together & whether or not we'll be using any aids etc etc.

I think a support thread where we can rant & spur each other on might be invaluable.

Anyone?

I'm planning to give up on jan 1. Had quit on champix (daren't ask for it again) but relapsed due to some recent stresses.

EllieArroway · 26/12/2012 13:42

Shall we give it a go together then, jess? I'm going cold turkey, I think.

jessjessjess · 26/12/2012 13:45

Yep! I'm going cold turkey too I think. Sigh.

Bajas · 26/12/2012 13:49

I plan to do the same. DH and I ttc our first so really need to stop. Could do with the support too.

EllieArroway · 26/12/2012 13:53

Brilliant!

Would Jan 1 be a good date for you too Bajas?

Sounds good to me Smile

jessjessjess · 26/12/2012 14:02

We are also TTC so I have have have to stop. Be great to have some solidarity here!

DisappointedPantomimeHorse · 26/12/2012 14:05

I'm in. I gave up last January but relapsed later in the year.

I'm going cold turkey and have Jan 2nd pencilled in. New Years Day still feels too festive to me.

TitHead · 26/12/2012 14:08

I got an e-lite cig for x-mas can I join please?

Bajas · 26/12/2012 14:09

I bought the Allen Carr book and started reading it a couple of months ago. Was quite convincing so then stopped reading it! Maybe now would be a good time to start again in preparation for Jan 1st. Has anyone tried it before?

trumpalot · 26/12/2012 15:04

me too please? i want to give up for the new year ... count me in x

EllieArroway · 26/12/2012 15:38

All welcome :)

Yes, I also have Allan Carr's book although I've never gotten to the end of it. Now might be a good time to restart.

I'm also preparing myself by cutting out the "essential" cigs - the ones I always have with coffee & after a meal. These are the ones I'm going to miss the most I think, so I figured I'd deal with the loss of them while still being a smoker, if that makes any sense Grin

Would be really interested in how you get on with the e-lite, Tithead.

I've realised how unlikely I am to succeed going cold turkey and have made an apt at the GP but couldn't get one until the 9th.

TitHead · 02/01/2013 11:29

How is everyone getting on. I'm finding the e-cig quite useful. I have had 2 actual cig's since midnight new years eve/day. I'm finding the habit cigs the hardest. Like the ones after meals before bed and first thing in the morning. The e-cig doesn't make me feel like I'm having a cig as such but it takes the edge of the craving and helps with the habbit aspect, like for example if everyone was to light up after a meal I don't feel like I'm going without iykwim.

EllieArroway · 02/01/2013 12:31

Sorry, everyone. I started the thread then buggered off Blush.

I haven't started yet - not there psychologically, I don't think.

Tithead Tell me about the e-cig. Does it feel like a real ciggie at all?

Jessjess Think I may have to do that. Check back with us after you've seen the GP.

There's some new patches out that you can wear pre-stopping & cutting down. I may investigate.

Good luck to all of you have gotten started. I'll be joining you very soon, promise :)

Hi, I have been a few days without a cig now, and I'm on champix. Well done everyone and keep visualising a healthy smoke free you. Smile

jessjessjess · 02/01/2013 15:23

Well done, keep it up!

I'm a bit frustrated as the earliest apt I could get to see someone at my GP surgery was the 9th of Jan. The reason for the frustration is I'm going to ask if I can have Champax (quit on it once before but relapsed after a few years). If not, I'll need to just buy it from Boots, which is fine - but means I needn't have waited until then. But no way can I quit without it!

jessjessjess · 02/01/2013 15:23

That said, I haven't had a cigarette yet today, and only had two yesterday.

BunFagFreddie · 02/01/2013 16:42

Well done jess! You're doing really well. I must admit that I am starting to feel a bit grouchy and would love a smoke.

jessjessjess · 02/01/2013 16:58

Thanks. You're doing great - are you doing anything as a distraction or substitute? I'm a big fan of mobile phone games to busy your hands and mind for a bit when cravings hit.

BunFagFreddie · 02/01/2013 17:19

I'm doing deep breathing when the cravings hit, or drinking some water or herbal tea.

What about craft? We could take up crochet or knitting. Grin

TitHead · 02/01/2013 19:43

Well done bunfag. Ellie I'm really impressed with mine. It is heavier than a fag but you "smoke" it in the same way. I'm finding it really usefull for those essential cigs like after a meal etc.

I also think it's great for when I'm with other smokers. I found social smoking a big problem. It takes away that immediate craving but is also useful for the habit side of it as you still almost feels like you are smoking. The one I have comes in two strengths so when I have used up my filters I am going onto the lower strength.
