anyone taken the antibiotic cefalexin? or urinary tract infections?

I've been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection after having had a very nasty tummy bug. I'm really nervous to take it though as it says it can upset the stomach and I can't face being sick / having diarrhea any more.

Has anyone else used this one? Did it make you feel ill? What would happen if I just try to drink a lot more and don't take it?

iv taken it for utis, it didnt cause me an upset stomach, but id still prefer an upset stomach than a uti, if you dont take it, the infection could get worse.

I had to take this for a week when i had a kidney infection and it made me really sick, no actual throwing up, just feeling to nauseaus to do anything other than lie still!! Sorry thats not what you want to hear! I wouldnt take it again, but I got a really nasty kidney infection that only got so bad cause i didnt get it treated soon enough so be careful about not taking anti-bs if the doc thinks you need them - perhaps you could ask her for an alternative? I was given a different sort after a week and they were so much better - unfortunatly cant remember there name, sorry!

I took it and it was pretty hard on my stomach, and most antibiotics weren't for me. Sorry. I'd definitely take something for your UTI, though.

DH has just taken it for a week, because of a very nasty groin injury(don't ask).It didn't make him sick at all but he was incredibly tired, slept very deeply at night(snored like a pig,I didn't get a wink of sleep).

hi im 27weeks pregnant and had to take this 4weeks ago for a uti. I didn't have much choice to take it as the uti started off my labour causing my waters to start going.
I was fine on this medication.

HappyMumof2 · 15/04/2006 14:28

I've taken it for a tooth abscess and ds has taken it for a UTI. Neither of us had any problems with it.

I have taken cepahlexin, you have to take it with loads of water.
The ones I had recently were mint coated but if you dont have a big glass of water it can give you heart burn. probiotics can help with the other end!

spacecadet · 15/04/2006 16:21

ive taken this lots of times, never had any probs.

thanks everyone. I've been taking it and it's giving me a definite feeling of nausea and a weird taste in my mouth but nothing worse so far thankfully.
