has anyone been told not to drive?

If so what happens next?
Ongoing saga of 7 weeks (since I passed out in H+M if anyone remembers)
Progressive dizziness and scary stuff.. just been wired up for 5 days to a heart monitor and am waiting for a brain MRI. I haven't been driving except tiny to the shop runs, but today had a massive worsening of dizziness while taking the heart monitor back to the hospital. Did the sensible thing and walked into a+e to be checked..and while pending tests have been told I can no longer drive.

I accept that.. I~ don't want to put anyone at risk and today was (even more) scary. But how long will they say? I can't find much info. I'm seeing the gp tomorrow and believe I have to inform the DVLA but I am worried sick that they will revoke my license for a year or something... and when.. (I've been off work 7 weeks) I finally go back it is going to be a nightmare for everyone:( I have 4 kids who needs transporting and DH works away a lot.

Any experiences?

I was told not to drive when I started passing out (turned out to be drug toxicity from beta-blockers/amitryptiline).

If you voluntarily surrender your licence, then as soon as you are told you are fit to drive again, you just let them know. You can then drive while they make enquiries with your doctor.

If you don't voluntarily surrender and they revoke your licence, you have to prove you are fit to drive before resuming driving.

I was advised by GP not to drive on temporary basis. You don't need to tell DVLA for what might be a virus.

The voluntary surrender is for a lengthier need

Personally I'd say do the responsible thing and don't drive. There is no point contacting DVLA yet

'Pending tests' is the clue here!

On the DVLA website it lists medical conditions that they need to be informed about. I haven't checked but I doubt 'pending tests' is one of them

I've just lost my licence, had the letter yesterday, I haven't driven since August though, still can't quite believe that I can just jump in the car.
Still can't believe that I can't just run upstairs for something either.
Feeling stupidly sad about something that was inevitable.

It's not just dvla you need to inform. Your insurance is void if you have not disclosed a condition/medication that makes you unfit to drive. Agree it is a pain, though. I have just been through this. I told the dvla straight up, they wrote to my cosultant, and the "ban" did not last for long. Know what you mean about being dizzy on buses--not pleasant. I am a very "by the rules" person and felt better about being straight with the dvla and insurance co. I doubt everyone is so honest though.
