Has anyone quit/tried to quit smoking with Champix? What was it like?

I would really like to hear from anyone who has used Champix. I am on day 1, but I've read so many awful things about it and have scared myself silly.

I felt depressed each time I've stopped smoking before, as in really, really rotten, angry, depressed and just wished I could die sometimes. Could people just be blaming their withdrawl symptoms on the Champix?

Has it helped anyone?

Thanks in advance.

I'm taking Champix at the moment for Stoptober. I'm currently on week 2 of the treatment and saw this forum so thought i would give everyone an update. Been smoke free for 4 days now and i'm feeling great - although i had 1 drag of a fag yesterday to 'see' how it tasted on Champix. It didn't taste very nice!!! I was chuffed!! The thing is, I haven't had any side effects from quitting. Does anyone know when I'l encounter these?? I'm expecting to cough up phlegm and have chest pains and stuff.

I had 24 hrs of gut rot, and some very weird dreams but its worked for me. I started champix on the 1/8/2007 and my last cigarette was on the 9/8/2007, I have not missed them at all and most definately the best thing I have done. Good luck!

I am on day 4 of Champix and my quit day is 8. Right now i am still enjoying smoking and have not noticed any change in that. I'm getting worried that i won't get any effects from champix and won't be able to give up help anyone??????

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread but wanted to answer Victoire1

I'm on day 29 of Champix and my quit day was day 11. I found that on day 9 my fags started to taste really gross which made me smoke a lot less (like 6 instead of 20, say). Quit day was fine, much easier than I expected. But I think the very best thing was going through the house and binning every lighter, ashtray, etc because if I hadn't, I'm sure I would have given in to the "I should be smoking now" thoughts. There haven't been any cravings, just the habit...like after dinner I think "time for a fag" but just have a TicTac instead and then it's forgotten about.

In my experience Champix really makes it so much easier. Good luck.

Possibly but it's only day 4 and you may find things are very different by quit day! ;) the difference between day 8 and day 9 for me was massive and very sudden.

Well day 5 nearly over and i smoked about 11 fags instead of the usual 20. Feeling ok and tomorrow start a new job in a school so no smoking there either. Good luck to us all i'm feeling positive and optimistic, its great to know there are other people beating the fags!

So far so good, today is my second non smoking day and it really isn't too bad! I work in a school so no smoking there and it is just the odd habitual one that i fancy, so whenever that happens i do something completely different. Still no adverse effects from the Champix apart from having water overnight as i get thirsty. I would recomend this to anyone!

I am in 5th week (Day 35) of Champix. Feeing lot better than when I smoke, I use to smoke 20 a day. This is my second try on Champix. the first time I tried was 3 years back and I could stop for 3 months. Hope this time it is for good. But still sometimes the urge sneaks in and had to get over it. The only problem is I am putting on weight. I have gained 5 KGs in 5 weeks and that is scary. Have to do something about it.

Will keep posting till I completely get over it. It may help someone.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm starting champix next week I'm just waiting for my script. I thought I'd look into it a bit more and started feeling really worried with some of the things iv seen online. But you have put my mind at ease seeing success storeys.

Iv tried to quit so many times and failed. I did cold turkey at the start of the year and lasted 3 months and just started again for no reason :(
No I seem to struggle yo get my mind in that way of thinking so hence the champix. One thing since stopping all those months ago I cannot smoke a normal fag they taste vile I have been smoking menthol...... I wish I never accepted one from a friend of mine it made starting and continuing so easy :(

Fingers crossed now this year will be the one! Well done to all those you have kept of the cigs x

Not rtwt but came on to say I literally BEGGED my dh to start smoking again and come off the champix

He was not himself at all - was a dark and sinister copy. That sounds dramatic but it’s the truth. I would never ever recommend it to anyone.
