Has temp, can't swaddle... advice!

He's six weeks old, and has had a temp on and off since yesterday morning. He's exhausted, but is normally swaddled to sleep - wrapping him up (even just wearing a nappy) is making his temp shoot up again.

He keeps dozing off, but then his arms jolt up, and he's awake again.

Any advice (so far the best I've come up with is holding his arms down for him.... not an easy thing to do all day, with a toddler in tow!)

I would swaddle loosely if that is making sense and bath his brow with a flannel and ice water til the temp drops

hard isn't it?

damp swaddle? secure but cooling
(may fail miserably, your mileage may very etc)

vary

How about a cool bath then swaddle him with something very thin, like cotton voile (if you have it or other net like curtain thing).

\link{http://www.miracleblanket.com/viewpoint.htm\miricle blanket} this is 100% cotton and very light, I used it with the chap during peak summer months, and nappy, with a fan on him. loose swaddle.
Swaddling really is not advised for very small babies who are unwell as they cannot controll their temp. monitor his temp closely.

try having him in a nappy with rolled up blankets at either sides of hime creating a nest. fan on him and tepid sponging.

ps you can get the miricle blanket in most mothercare shops

swaddle with thin cotton sheet. hospital did that for dd last week and just checked temp hourly and 'aired' her for 10 mins.

Thankyou all (sorry for the long gap - he was crying lots).

Cooled him with the bath, and he is currently swaddled in a purple curtain (voile) Grin

He's looking a bit happier.
