I've really had enough this weekend. Am going into another weekend with chronic kidney pain , bladder discomfort , nausea and just utterly naffed off.
I've had this on and off now for 4 years.
I have a prolapse which was repaired years ago but is now worse than ever. over the last ten years i think because of the prolapse my wee has progressively become slower and slower resulting in recently a diagnosis of urine retention due to a poor detrusor muscle ?? I had a post void volume of over 600 mls and was basically sent home with a box of catheters and told the continence service would be in touch. I'm self catheterising sometimes which is sometimes giving me some relief but the continence people haven't even got any clinic dates yet for next year so no support there.
My kidney scan was normal as was a cystoscopy.
I'm on blood pressure tabs and have been for. 4 years being reviewed at present as not working very well.
I really was expecting something to show up on the scan having suffered with kidney pain now for around 4 years. There was no kidney reflux either .I really wish that they had something so I could get it sorted iykwim.
I'm worried that my kidney is getting damaged .

I've become resistant to many of the antibiotics thro overuse.
so I'm in bed again with DH looking after 4 dc and have a job to manage also.

I feel sick and have had this one for around 3 weeks now. just started antibiotics again !
I've tried all the usual I really really have. Am taking cranberry tabs drinking red bush or earl grey.
I feel like I'm just waiting for my kidneys to eventually show some sort of failure before someone listens.
I've seen a gynae with a special interest in urology who discharged me with these catheters and said he didn't think my prolapse was causing it and I was up to me if I wanted to have it repaired !Said he didn't know.
should I ask my GP to refer me to a nephrologist ?
Any advice whatsoever would be appreciated x

You poor love. Yes, I would ask for a referral - the last one sounds worse than useless!

One thing I happened to read last night, is that cranberries can actually be a bladder irritant - so maybe stop taking those? I'm off to see a urologist myself in half an hour, as I had (obvious) blood in my wee last week and no sign of obvious infection. I suspect cystoscopy and scans are in my immediate future Sad

Good luck and hope you get a decent referral - if you have a sympathetic GP, they should do a bit of research for you and find out who the right woman or man for the job is. Fingers crossed for you!
