Blood in wee, urologist tomorrow, bricking it...

I Googled. I know, I know. Though I did find some reassuring stuff as well as the inevitable.

But as it was 'gross hematuria' last Sunday evening, followed by microscopic amounts monday and today at GP surgery, and I have no infection....I'm nervous.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning, thankfully, but any handholding or 'been there' or words of wisdom much appreciated

Should add, I'm (well) over 40, hence urgent referral.

I know three people who have had this. None of them had anything major wrong.

GP kindly phoned tonight to say he'd done the referral letter, and that he hoped it was a 'storm in a tea cup'. Or in a sample pot.

I have no pain, so am still a bit freaked, but I hope so too

Well, consultant was very matter of fact about it - said it was mandatory to check for bladder cancer in all cases of visible blood in urine, especially for (long time ago) ex smoker over 40. But he still thinks it probably won't be, and I recently had u/s of kidneys and bladder anyway and they were ok - so only cystoscopy left to do.

Which he's going to try and do on Monday.....eek...

He did say bladder cancers are almost always very treatable, but it still would be a shocker. Am I being wussy?!

Thanks, yes, clear u/s does make me feel better - and no, he can't tell me, because basically he doesn't know.

I did ask him if I would be ok driving myself back afterwards, and he roared with laughter and said 'yes, there and back - you'll be fine'. I would roar back, if I was on the other end of the cystoscope

No! But weirdly, I did lift some heavy toys of dd2's whilst sitting on her bedroom floor - and had a one-off, very sharp tearing type pain in bladder area. The bleeding was a few hours later

It was so random I actually forgot to tell the doctor today, but it would make no difference - cystoscopy anyway.

In complete funk this morning

Waiting for tests (and results, as it will be both) is the pits.

I hope you get on ok and I'm sure the bleeding will have been caused by you lifting those heavy toys. It just seems too much of a coincidence that it started after that tearing pain.

Surprisingly unpainful, for anyone doing a future search on cystoscopy - not as bad as a smear! He found teeny polyps and they probably bled - nothing else to be seen, hurrah. He then packed me off for ct scan to check kidneys, also fine.

Glad all ok. I've had 4 cystoscopies for stent insertion/ removal (kidney stones) and after I got over the ewww factor and got the sedatives, I didn't care!

Glad all is well. Frank gross hematuria is very frightening, so I'm so glad to hear all is ok, especially with the kidney scan too!!

So pleased it all went well!

Immensely relieved - and very tired: shaking like a leaf clearly burns up a lot of calories!

Weegie, sedatives? I didn't get as much as an aspirin, but then again stents and kidney stones are far more painful than slight burning and ouchiness....yes, it was frightening, thank you for helping me not feel so wussy about it. Hope your kidneys are happy these days?
