I have had hip and back pain on and off all year, but now its most days. It's only when I've been in bed for a while it starts. I find it hard to find a comfy position and get pain in my hip and right side of my back and have to roll myself out of bed in agony. It starts 5 or 6am ish so I am waking early. Have seen Doc who is referring to muscular/skeletal? after doing blood test for arthritis and spondylitis which were clear and back and hip x ray which was fine apart from narrowing of spine due to age! (I'm 36) While I'm waiting for a referral I just want some advice as its really getting me down. I'm sitting here now with a water bottle and its helping. Does this sound familiar to anyone? My Mum had arthritis so I find it hard to believe tests are not showing anything. Then I start worrying that its something sinister, but surely that would hurt all the time not just when I'm immobile?
Please help if you can

Maybe a physio referral would help. What kind of exercise do you do?

Lomaamina · 01/12/2012 10:34

I have very similar symptoms and only hip degeneration (I.e. arthritis) showed up on X-ray but was referred by GP to physio who did find bottom two spinal discs were arthritic too. Physiotherapy has been very helpful & Pilates helping somewhat ti strengthen core muscles. Obviously you should follow docs advice!

Hi all
Thanks for your advice, I dont exercise specifically but walk a lot with daily life. I have put on weight lately which I think is making it worse. I have found a local physio who incorporates pilates into it so will contact her on a temporary thing until referral appointment comes. Thanks to you for the advice. xx

Ok so now I have pain on the top of my foot with slight puffiness (skin feels stretched) and slight pins and needles. Reallly worried but also down as I'm up early again due to hurting more in bed. x

I'd go back to doc if you've a long wait to see specialist. My sympathies!

Have you tried taking antiinflamatories? Get some OTC counter, and maybe a pain killer as well. Keep them with water at the side of your bed.

Have you tried sleeping on your side with a pillow at your hip, or a pillow between your legs?

Also, how good / old is your matress?

I've got arthritis in most joints and a couple of years age I spent £400 on a matress with a latex top. It was money well spent.

Hi all
Thanks for the replies, I saw the Gp who said it was tendonitis on top of my foot. Saw a private physio today who was fab!

Ok so how long does tendonitis last. Sometimes it feels like my foot will explode, not hugely swollen but skin tight like when pregnant. Really fed up now, what with back and now foot I feel like I'm 65. Sad x

I posted on the other thread, you must try a new slightly softer good quality mattress. One of those big bed places offers a change of mind promise if it doesnt suit

Thanks again Knackered!! x
