And I'm crapping myself. I've been once before (turned out to be a cyst) so I know what's coming. Its in the afternoon too, I should still get the results the same day though, right?

I'm really scared. I keep trying to laugh it off to dh, but I'm worried.

Gp referred to me to breast clinic, and I was "manhandled" by a young man ( so embarassed about my old breasts), and was told they were fibrous tissue, there and then.

In my area we go back one week later for the results. If it looks like a cyst on the scan they will try and drain it off, which hopefully will be re-assuring to you.

If you have had cysts before i am sure that is what it probably is, i can understand your anxiety though.

I am back at breast clinic tomorrow, i had a pocket of fluid drained last week.

Have a few treats this week to help you through.

the last time they took a sample which was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. including internal bleeding from a slashed bladder.

I'm sure it'll be nothing, I have very lumpy boobs. but christ, Im scared.

My sister was recently referred to a Breast Clinic for a suspicious hard lump.

She spent a good couple of hours having scans, biopsy etc and was told on the day that it was a cyst.

Whilst she was delighted at the good news, she wasn't so thrilled with the rather abrupt (male) Consultant who was not pleased with her when she asked for a female doctor. Female nurses are available but not female doctors. Like you digerd, she was mortified at having such a young man handle her breasts, but having got over her initial fears she was impressed with the speed in which she had her results.

Of course you're scared, who wouldn't be. Agree with NK34, so treats and distractions until Tuesday, then hopefully a massive sigh of relief when they tell you it's nothing.

Just to reassure though, if it is bad news well mostly these days they can do something. I am living proof.

Zombie assumes you're going to the same Breast Clinic Zombie attends. On the day Zombie was diagnosed the time scale went like this:

Mammogram and sonogram between 0830 and 0900.

Needle aspiration biopsy at 0930.

Results and diagnosis confirmed at 1100.

zombie, love, yes. my appt isnt til 2.30 though, so I dont know how they will fit everything in. Ive sorted for Feral Boy to be picked up, be given dinner etc, and dh has the day off to come with me. I dont want to go. I put off seeing the gp and have been doing a rather fabulous ostrich impression. how are you doing sweetheart?

rather daftly Ive been rushing around, making sure that we have everything for xmas now. just in case.

Zombie suspects that her pre-diagnosis ostrich impression was far more extended than yours.

2.30 is probably the first after lunch slot. It has been when Zombie has had afternoon clinic appointments. As someone needing a diagnosis you most probably would be prioritised over any follow up appointments. So there's an excellent chance that they will be able to fit it all in that afternoon.

Treatment wise Zombie is doing extremely well. The Herceptin is a walk in the park really. It's all the other shite that has rained down on us over the last year / 18 months that has taken the bigger toll on us. It really has been unrelenting and it's that which has brought both of us nearly to breaking point on several occasions. But, we keep shuffling on.

OP I've been there (several times). I have lumpy breasts and have had several cysts (some removed by GA!) ( I don't think they do that anymore).

I know how paranoid I've been every time it happens and I don't what to suggest as nothing seems to help me with the anxiety of it all.

I don't understand the sample they took that was painful. I've had a cone biopsy - was it that?

Some of us just have fibroidy, lumpy boobs.

Well, I had to wait 2 weeks for the stuff they took out in the biopsy to go through the labs. Am surprised at so many people hearing on the same day.
I can't fault the staff / procedure at the clinic though - was excellent.

Really, backforgood, I've heard of next day but not a week. That must be awful.

They used a needle to take a sample, but it was quite thick. I still have a scar now.

The lump is different to my usual hormonal lumps. Its small and hard. Like a frozen pea. And its still there, I noticed it a month ago now.

No - it was fine. Chatting to ladies on the Tamoxifen thread (it's in General health if you want any hand holding - they are great on there, and don't mind holding hands of those just waiting for tests) I don't think that's unusual. I assumed that whatever tests they run, need time to run.

thank you, I had assumed that it was the same everywhere. dh is the only person (in rl) who knows. I've told everyone else that I just have a check up.
