sudden limp in a 3.5-year-old

Dd got out of bed yesterday morning and the moment her feet touched the ground she fell over. Since then she's been unable to walk further than a few steps, collapses if she puts weight on her left leg. She says she's in no pain, she isn't ill in any other way except seeming tired and a bit off her food. I took her to the GP this afternoon who sent us to A&E where she had basic blood tests done and basic neurological exam. They're all quite flummoxed by her sudden lack of 'power' in her left leg and are sending me to see the orthopedic specialist. Someone suggested Perthe's Disease.

Anyone else had ANYTHING like this happen to their little one?

TIA

soeuvenir, this happened to my ds2, about 2 years ago. Perthes was discussed but in the end they decided it wasn't Perthes, just poor circulation to the hip. He did recover completely after a couple of days and has never had it since. You poor thing, what with your headaches and now your dd, you're not having much luck, are you?

Hello. My DD had a similar thing happen when she was 2. She developed a painless limp and after tests at hospital it was diagnosed as Irritable Hip. It went after a few weeks. Apparently it can follow a cold or virus.

no, chipmonkey, not my finest hour! I'm hoping it will go by itself. Today still bad though. We see orthopaedic consultant tomorrow morning.

They kind of ruled out irritable hip as dd hasn't had a virus plus it's painless no fever etc...

any further advice for me before we see the orthopaedic specialist tomorrow?

It seemed to me that dd was moving a little better today but as dp pointed out it also seems as though she's adapted her movements to the weak limb.

How did you get on, souvenir?

It's gone! I've been in bed with a horrible gastric flu all weekend, so sorry for not replying sooner ... Smile

Totally bizarre
dd had no pain either unable to bear weight stand or walk - she had it in her knee though not hip...
Glad dd is back to normal souvenir hope you are too :)
