Dental advice needed

I've had a crown for about 15 years and it's the old post-type crown. My dentist was concerned about it and it fell out about a year ago and he cleaned out a little bit of decay underneath and replaced it. That dentist has since left the practice. When I went for a check-up today the dentist said the crown was loose and made another appointment for a clean-up and refixing of the crown.
does anyone know if there is a way of replacing this type of crown for a more modern type and if I should be worried that it is loose again?
Probably should have asked the dentist this but was so busy and relieved to get my three under 5's to actually sit in the chair that I was incoherent by the time I left!
