Winter vomiting bug

So last Thursday the onslaught began with the dreaded bug. I don't think I've ever been so sick. The stomach cramps and waves of pain were awful. It's left me on Monday, half a stone lighter which I'm not moaning about. But I feel constantly nauseous. I can only stomach thin fluids and tiny amounts of food. I managed half a bread roll at lunchtime yesterday and then a v meagre amount for dinner. Have woken up and just feel I could heave at everything. Is this psychological? I do still feel really yuck. I know nobody likes being sick but I think I'm particularly pathetic at it.

Every adult I know has been a couple of days, I have a crap immune system and it's wearing off after a week. I feel like death.

inadreamworld · 12/11/2012 13:47

In my case lasted 2 days HannahBerry but was feeling a bit delicate for a few more days after that. But I am pregnant so think I would have got over it faster normally. Or not got it at all. In DDs case it lasted about half a day!! She is 18 months and seems to have inherited a good immune system from her Dad who never caught it and hardly ever even gets a cold lucky thing.

Phacelia · 12/11/2012 13:54

I've had it. I vomited 21 times in 7 hours. Yes I counted.

Awful virus, really hope people can avoid it if you haven't had it already.

MordionAgenos · 12/11/2012 13:56

The non stop Deluge goes on for about 24 hours or less. But you're normally most definitely Not Right (and sometimes, depending on the ferocity of The Deluge, in a state of collapse, both physical and mental (there is nothing quite like half filling a bath with your own vomit. It's a sight I never want to see again))for 2 or 3 days in total.

MordionAgenos · 12/11/2012 13:57

It's possible that was TMI Blush

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 12/11/2012 14:02

Mordion Lol, it's definitely yucky isn't it? :o

Tailtwister · 12/11/2012 14:03

Not yet, but I've had similar in previous years. I pity anyone who is going through it.

kige · 12/11/2012 14:14

I had this a couple of years ago. It's fucking horrible and I am sorry for anyone who has it at the moment. It is going round my DC's school already so I feel a bit like a sitting duck!!

My eldest diahorreared (sp!!) in his pants when he had it as he couldn't get to the toilet and I thought it was just becuase he was a child that he didn't know in time. Then me and DH got it and both ended up doing the same, unable to get to the toilet due to the speed and force of the expulsions! It was absolutely disgusting and I remember washing everything I could possibly wash. Thoroughly awful.

strugglin · 12/11/2012 14:15

My 10month old started with s&d saturday hes been really ill took him to the walk in centre sunday dr gave him diorilyte. I have woken up with it this morning. I managed to get other 2dcs to school. I feel so ill my stomAche keeps cramping and im so cold. Does nurofen work for the cramps?

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 12/11/2012 14:17

I have a question if someone could help.

Since this started a week ago I have had dark brown pee, does anyone have any idea why this is? I drink more than anyone I know so I don't think I could be dehydrated.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 12/11/2012 14:19

Strugglin Nothing worked for the cramps for me, phone the Dr and as for Tramadol or Cocodamol. Strong ones! Or go to the pharmacy (get someone not ill to go) and get Solpadine Max but make sure you drink loads.

Piemistress · 12/11/2012 14:29

Hit everyone in the house on the same night/day! Myself, DP, DD age 5mo and DS age 2.11yr! Wasn't good.,

BeauNeidel · 12/11/2012 14:40

I have never in living memory had a vomiting sickness, but have been having crampy nauseating pains in my stomach for the past hour or so.

happy2bhomely · 12/11/2012 14:42

It hit eldest ds last Saturday night. He vomited every hour for 12 hrs and then had a bad belly for a day after.

Then it hit little ds. Only one lot of vomiting but he had diarrhoea for 5 days.

In the meantime, it got the girls. One vomited every two hours for two days. The other has had violent diarrhoea for 6 days. She has had to wear pull ups because she just can't make it to the toilet.

Then finally it got me Saturday night. I am 11 weeks pregnant and suffering from morning sickness too. The aches and pains were just awful. I fell asleep crying. But today, I have woken up feeling rough, but I'm eating and drinking and feeling much better.

Wishing everyone well!

Chippychop · 12/11/2012 14:47

S&D has stopped but I am aching all over.i haven't had anything to eat since yesterday...could I take paracetamol or something?

Dancergirl · 12/11/2012 14:49

I thought there was already a vaccine available?

Badvoc · 12/11/2012 14:56

That's for rotavirus dancer girl.
Not noro virus.

Dancergirl · 12/11/2012 15:01

Can adults get the rotavirus vaccine?

Badvoc · 12/11/2012 15:06

Not needed.
Once you have had it as a child you won't get it again, or if you do it will not be severe, just stomach ache/runs.
The bug my dc had 3 weeks ago wasn't noro - no diahorrea (well, I did!) and they were ok-ish the next day.
I felt ghastly for days.

101handbags · 12/11/2012 15:09

Oh God, I had this last Monday night, it came on so suddenly. One minute I was eating my dinner, the next I was nauseous as hell, sitting on the loo for one and a half hours with diarrhoea like water and at the same time throwing up into the bath. I thought I was going to die or at least pass out. Shaking, hot, cold, almost had a panic attack it was so distressing. Barely had the strength to go downstairs and get a drink of water when it was all over. Started to feel better about 36 hours later. Had the same thing same time of year about 8 years ago. Never wanted to feel that way again then but this was exactly the same. My sympathies to everyone who is suffering.

Snugabugz · 12/11/2012 15:10

What's worse than breast feeding a 15 week old baby whikst suffering from sickness and diarrhoea? Doing it on your eldest son's fourth birthday and missing the entire day including his party. 'twas me on Tuesday

MordionAgenos · 12/11/2012 15:16

Sung Poor you. :( But I must say, having been in that position and also having been EBF a baby with winter vom - that was worse. She was either erupting like vom(or poo)suvius or comfort feeding. The whole time. I couldn't prise her off me, so I just had to basically sit naked, but covered in towels, holding her and nursing her and just, you know, loving her, until it passed. Probably the worst two days of my life. Certainly the messiest and smelliest.

I can laugh now.

bellarose2011 · 12/11/2012 15:38

we all had this twice in 2 weeks last year and i was heavily pregnant! hell!
i have never felt so awful in my life, and to top it off i got a bout of cystitis at the same time which wouldn't go because i couldn't keep any fluids down.
are we likely to get it again?

Loveweekends10 · 12/11/2012 15:55

Dd (7) has it right now. She has been vomiting since Saturday afternoon. I'm just trying to give her sips of water and juice every half an hour. She can't do anything poor luv.

ridingthewave · 12/11/2012 16:32

I've had the norovirus a few times - twice while pregnant which left me hospitalised for a couple of days.

Think I've had it again over the weekend - I was only sick once then OK for 2 days then had violent diarrhea for 1 day, aches, pains etc. Usually I'm violently sick for 24 hours but then get better quickly but does anyone know if it can present symptoms in different ways? The reason I ask is that I hope to god I've got it then at least it's over and done with - I feel flippin awful!!

Hang in there everyone, it's short-lived and you will feel better.....
