Winter vomiting bug

So last Thursday the onslaught began with the dreaded bug. I don't think I've ever been so sick. The stomach cramps and waves of pain were awful. It's left me on Monday, half a stone lighter which I'm not moaning about. But I feel constantly nauseous. I can only stomach thin fluids and tiny amounts of food. I managed half a bread roll at lunchtime yesterday and then a v meagre amount for dinner. Have woken up and just feel I could heave at everything. Is this psychological? I do still feel really yuck. I know nobody likes being sick but I think I'm particularly pathetic at it.

I did speak with NHS direct last night, and they put me through to a nurse who said there wasn't much that they can do, but to go back to the doctors Monday if still vomiting. It's only about twice a day now (Tuesday it was 11 times), but it's been like that since Thursday, and she has no energy. I can't tell whether i'm being a panicy mother.

Keep BFing as often as possible and trying solids. I would go back to doctors as soon as you can. Wednesday was a long time ago. She will be OK on BM if you are feeding regularly, but still vomiting nearly a week later is not good.

Not had time to read thread as DD 11 months is ill. Quick question, she has been vomiting since Tuesday and hasn't taken solids since, only bm. Is it normal to be vomiting this long and to only have bm? She feels boney and only weighed 15.8lbs this morning.

We did go to the doctors Wednesday but just said to wait it out.

We were so ill with this last year, I live in fear of it now. I was so ill in the middle of the night, as was DS, DH had to go get my mum for back up support. One hour later, both he and poor mum were pole axed too. We had to get the in laws over to look after the baby as we were all rendered useless. All this going on between 12 and 3 in the morning. The most awful night.

10 days later I think we are finally rid of it! I don't think any amount of cleaning and bleAching made a jot of difference. Considering we have such a large family I'm amazed this Is the first time we've all been I'll together. My appetite creeped into action although can't eat a lot. I still can't drink tea/coffee. I too was on the yogurt, crisp diet. Last child went back to school Friday. They recommend 48 hours after last d or v, to go back to school nursery work etc.

Does this sound familiar. I felt fine yesterday. Woke up this morning with gurgling stomach. I have had hot and cold sweats all day, feel tired and dizzy and now mild stomach cramps...

Ooo Jacques that doesn't sound nice. Dh only got that end of things too and managed to escape vomiting. So it might be another strain. My dd is the only one do far to escape out house of illness.

A week on I still have no energy.

I think I have this today. Was very ill in the night but only spectacular diarrhoea and painful stomach cramps - no vomiting (altho I was very queasy). Can this still be the "winter vomiting bug" with no actual vomiting? Or do I have some alternative strain of horror?

My baby started nursery 6weeks ago and seems to have brought home a bug a week since then. Grr.

It's still working its way through DD's class - one more down with it this morning. School is closed for polling today - just want to keep her off tomorrow too and try to avoid it.

Bloody stupid people - it's 48 HOURS. Don't send your kid to school to infect mine Angry

Last time I got it was from a friend who had previously seen another friend who hadn't bothered to tell her she had been throwing up the day before. 3 years of health problems because of that stupid person. I just can't get it again.

Angry Sad

I've had the runs about 15 times and thrown up once ! Not sure if its the same bug though as I'm not aching and after spending all night on the loo it seems there's nothing left. Friend said there's a few people she knows who have it for 24 hours so fingers crossed the worst has passed.

Feel for all the little ones who have it, so far my ds is ok.

I kept dd off playgroup she doesnt seem to have any symptoms. Ds is laid on the sofa feeling very sorry for himself. When i rang school to explain he was ill i asked when he could back and she said its 48hrs after his last d or v.

PuffPants · 14/11/2012 12:39

Oh strugglin - keep her away from contact with other little ones if you can. You wouldn't want anyone else to suffer if you could help it would you?

Oh I do hope it doesn't always work like that sadsong. DS2 was the only one here not to get the bug two weeks ago - but has started with the vomiting during the night. Poor DD has only been well now for 24 hours after 12 days of vomiting, I can't bear the thought of her going through it again poor little mite Sad. She's only 14 months & tiny as it is.

There is light at the end of the tunnel! Three days and I think it's finished. I slept last night and have today managed to eat three crackers, a dry cereal bar, half a can of soup and a slice of dry toast. This must be what posh spice feels like every day.

I cannot stop washing my hands.

Stay strong people!
