Reaction to antibiotics

Hi

Asking on behalf of my friend.

Her little boy 18 months had to go to hospital today as a small cut on his toe had turned into an infection. His toe was purple and hot and a line was going up his foot.

The hospital confirmed that a bug had got into the cut and was given two different types of antibiotics. One was fluoxicillin I think and another longer sounding penicillin one.

Anyway, he has never had any antibiotics before and within an hour of taking a dose of each medicine he has got a dotty rash pretty much all over and some clusters of redder patches mainly on his legs.

Does this sound like he is reacting to the antibiotics?

Does she need to contact anyone to let them know?

Should she carry on with the treatment?

They were talking about getting him for some IV antibiotics if the infection got any worse or didnt improve within a couple of days.

Thanks

I'd call NHS direct

Yes she should tell someone immediately, it could just be all the other crap they put in paediatric syrups, but it could be the drug. IV is the way to go to exclude the additives and I think it's quicker.

this sounds very much like a reaction to antibiotics and needs to be seen and confirmed by a doctor, so it can go on his notes. Has he had vomiting or diarrhea as these are often reactions to antibiotics too

I am allergic to penicillin and the reaction I had the last time I had any was an all over body rash. Think your friend should take her son to be seen by someone.
