I found it on my daughter's bedroom floor. I think it's a strong prescription painkiller but I want to check.

I'ts pale yellow in colour, about 2cm long, squashed oval shape with a large lower case a at the top and the letters MA 500 underneath.

She's so careless, my 5 y old could have gone in and picked it up.

\link{http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100002100.html\Ponstan forte} - aka mefenamic acid ?

starlover · 31/03/2006 10:29

what painkiller do you think it is?

kipper22 · 31/03/2006 10:52

strange - i had a 4yr old in my class bring a handful of these into school last year and share them out. we contacted the local chemist as mum was unavailable and he said as lizs - told us to keep an eye on her and make sure she wasn't sleepy but no need for a&e or similar. her mum had no idea where they'd come from either. are you in folkestone by any chance - maybe there's some sort of kiddy dealer around!? [don't know whether to have a worried emoticon or not!]

Thank you.

I think it's a painkiller the doctor prescribed for her because of crippling period pains. LIZS's link indicates that it may be.

I'm just annoyed at her carelessness. She's 16 so I don't get to monitor her trips to the doctor, and asking her to keep her medicines in a locked cabinet with ours is just 'so lame'.

But she moved out this week so that should be the end of it. I was just trying to convert her pigsty back into a bedroom again when I found it.

My ponstan/mefenamic acid tablets are almost like the description you gave, except mine have the letters MEF 500 on them. How old is your dd (the one whose bedroom it was in)

saltire · 31/03/2006 12:42

must have answered while i was posting, mine is for crippling period pain as well

JonesTheSteam · 31/03/2006 12:44

Agree it sounds like Ponstan. Best friend at uni was prescribed them for period pain.

That's a good site, chapsmum.

No, don't worry, I'm sure it is Ponstan. And it's now in the bin.
