My dad has 5 paratoid cysts/tumors - they are annoying

The GP will do nothing

at about £2000 a go to remove them privately that's £10K

Is there anything else that can be done (eg draining?)

He needs to get a referral to an appropriate specialist and discuss options, even if that referral is private.
The cost of removing them wouldn't be additive either - they would be removed at the same time, so though it might cost more as the operating slot would be longer, it prob wouldn't be more than £3k total at a guess

Apparently the NHS will do nothing & they are causing no problems (other than a dry mouth)

Has he asked about a second opinion?

The GP won't even refer him; apparently they are cosmetic

When they get infected he gets antibiotics

would they not be additive? even if they are different sides?

Is there another GP at the practise he can see?

Most of the cost of the operation is the bed, drugs, anaesthetists fee etc, so excising another cyst would be unlikely to cost more.

I'd find a local head and neck surgeon who does private work, then ask the GP for a referral - a consultation would be £150, then if they say they can do something in their NHS work, they will tell you

He says at least his ears don't stick out as much as they did before

The GP says draining them is pointless as they will fill up again; but my dad says it has taken 20 years for them to fill up this much and he doesn't think he will be that bothered about them when he is 88......

I will get him to nag the GP/see a different one/see a specialist

DH had an infected parotid cyst drained (and checked for cytology) last week, under U/S control at a NHS hospital after 3 days of inpatient IV antibiotic treatment!

We are waiting for a follow up OP appt to see if the specialist reckons it'll refill and reinfect again.... and if the sack of the cyst should therefore be removed!
